The camera does not have a burst mode unless what you are referring to is a sequential shooting mode which it does have. Page 72 of your advanced camera manual explains how to set that mode up and use it.

Check whether you are on burst mode. Burst mode will take more than one photo. Try switching back to the standard modes and disable burst.

My lumix only takes 3 pics in burst mode. will it take more pics in burst mode? (fz45 ) and how do i use the settings?

The speed of the card has a lot to do with the number of pics taken in burst mode. I would recommend a class 6 or better.

My camera takes 3 pictures instead of 1,

What you are on is sometimes called "Burst" mode. It is meant to be taking pictures of things like baseball players, so you can get the shot right were he hits the ball. I am not a owner of an olympus camera, but look through your cameras settings, and try to find that setting and switch to "single".
Look in your manuel for more detailed instructions.

I cannot find the burst mode on my camera, the only thing that my camera said was cannot use burst mode with flash

In burst mode, the Camera will be taking multiple images. Flash can only spark once to get enough light. If the Flash is enabling in the multi burst mode, it will loose the battery power as well as not give the correct images. Hence, by default regardless of manufacturer, the flash cannot be used in multi burst mode.
I hope you understand my concern. Thanks.

Each time I press the shutter button to take a picture the flash keeps flashing fast on and off 3 bursts of about 10 flashed then it takes a pic ??? help

The built-in flash can function as an autofocus illuminator. This helps with focusing in low-light conditions in the AF mode.
To disable this function, press the menu button, then select service1 menuitem, then AF illuminat., and finally, select OFF.

Slow taking pic, flash flashes multiple times while lenses acts like it is trying to focus

The evolt cameras use the flash bursts as a "autofocus help". Try to find points with high contrast or edges to point one of the three autofocus points at (you see these points while looking through the viewfinder and they flash red as soon as the camera is focused).

So, flash bursts basically mean "too low light" some other situation which is hard for the camera to focus. In such situations, try to switch to MF mode (manual focus). Or you could buy an external flash (e.g. Olympus FL-36) which has a red light for autofocus assistance instead of flash bursts.

Burst mode

Turn on the power with the mode switch in the camera position. Press MENU to display the menu. Select Mode (REC Mode) menu item with the left & right arrow buttons on the control button. Select the "normal" setting with up/down arrow buttons. Press MENU to turn off the menu. I believe the pictures already taken in burst mode are retained in the camera. Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

Red dot

I suspect that your intsructions might help you find out what this red dot indicates. I have had customers send their cameras in for service complaining about a dark rectangle in the lower right hand corner of their Olympus cameras' LCD. Turns out it was the exposure "burst" counter.
