Evidently you downloaded the wrong drivers. Check make and model of your sound card, or check the onboard sound in the "DEVICE MANAGER." (I'm assuming you run Windows XP). Go to the correct manufacturers website and get the right drivers. Or, it could be something as simple as the speakers are muted or disabled. Go to control panel, sounds and audio devices and make sure speakers are enabled and turned up.

i have compaq presario c700. when i attach headphones, the laptop speakers dont get off. both headphone and speaker are on. the sound should only come from headphones..
