I have a Canon Rebel T2i; when I bought the camera, it came with a Canon EFS 18-55mm lens. This lens had worked perfectly for me for a year; though one day when I removed this lens to use a telephoto lens...

Sorry, but there's nothing you can do as that's a professional repair only.

Your fix options are to replace the lens, or to send it to Canon for a repair (usually fixed cost) or to simply learn to live with manual focus until you can afford one of the first two options.

You might even prefer MF as you always focus upon what you want rather than on what the camera thinks you want. The extra few moments it takes to capture an image often result in more thought and better compositions as well and you get a far longer battery life.. Personally, I very rarely ever use AF.

Camera problem with an old Canon "Sure Shot Max". The lens will not emerge when the opening switch is used. Battery is new, and film has loaded ok. Any ideas?

Try tapping gentley the beck of the camera or helping the lens to extend by pulling them with your finger nail, see if this can unlock the lens gears.

If you camn get the lens to extend, the problem is solved

Fungus (oil spray/mist?) on inner lens surfaces - how to disassemble and clean a Canon 75-300mm EF AF lens? A skeleton picture would also be helpful. Thanks, Tom.

Okay. I just wanted to scare you away from ruining a perfectly good (or nearly so) lens, but a learning project is a different matter. And a lens collimator is not that hard to build. One source is the book "Camera Maintenance & Repair" by Thomas Tomosy. I'm sure a quick Google search would show even more.

I did the same thing myself decades ago, taking apart a damaged zoom lens. Unfortunately, I never got it working properly again :-( But it was an educational experience, even though I didn't have a lens collimator...

Canon ixus 80 is lens error tried everything no joy

With digital cameras, it must be noted that lenses are very sensitive, and can be damaged by most any impact when the lens is extended. Keeping the camera in a padded case can prevent most of this kind of damage. This particular lens problem may not have been caused by impact, but most often is. Lenses are not easy to fix, and internal parts can become broken or jammed.
To try to fix this you can try to pull on the lens when you turn it on, and at the same time also do a slight twisting and back ward motion as well. This may reset the lens to the track system. It may not work, and may require repairs.
Canon has a great repair department. Canon Repair and information.
Call the 800 number and see what can be done. Also, Canon has a trade-in or trade-up program and for your broken camera, you may be able at a reasonable price to get something even better than what you have with all the original books and papers which came with the new camera. This may be a good way to go and consider, rather than spending a lot to repair it.

Canon SD 870IS - lens error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

The lens will not retract.

When the lens will not retract and camera is not functional (no picture ondisplay, and does not shoot) , and you already tried replacingbatteries with a new fresh set (ensure please) , and then restartingcamera with no memory card inside, then camera is faulty.

Try aneasy fix by pushing gently the lens (do not force them, just help them)while you turn off camera at same time. Try also switching the modeselector.

If still no luck , then the camera must be disassembled to fix the problem.

Possible reasons are :

  • Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
  • Main board faulty.
  • Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
  • If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

If the camera is less than one year old will be replaced by manufacturer.

If your warranty is expired you can get an estimate for repair frommanufacturer, or from a third party like Advance Camera here :Advance Camera Repair you can book the repair online.

Canon ixus 65 lens error

I'm tempted to tell you to send the camera to me in Canada for repair. Just the difference in exchange will save you money. LOL I siggest you check the phone book in your area for a shop that is authorized by Canon. They will have the equipment and software to do a proper repair. By dealing directly with the shop you may be able to negotiate a better price.
