Question about IBM G 96 (White) 19 in.CRT Conventional Monitor

1 Answer

IBM CRT Monitor - monitor off, red LED flashing

My monitor worked great for 4 years now, suddenly it didn't wanted to connect to the PC, although the Video Card was OK. The red LED was on so it isn't a problem with the power supply. It recovered in a few days then went off again. And now the red LED is flashing instead. I don't have any experience in repairing monitors, though I have repaired electronic appliances around the house like recorder, phones, washing machine and stuff... Can I fix it myself or do I really have to get a repairman?

First years baby monitor Y7569P

That is due to some sort of electrical flux within the monitor CRT tube

Since the CRT tube has a very high voltage operation it may happen

You may have noticed similar noise coming out of any ordinary Tubelight condensers

Tip

Monitor buying tips you should know.

Over the years monitors have transformed from those bulky CRT monitors to square LCD screens to stylish flat wide screen LCD's and now to new stylish extremely thin LED screens. On average every PC user spends at least 5 hours a day looking at the monitor. If the picture is fuzzy and not clear enough then there is a very high possibility that the eyes get damaged.

Monitor Sizes
There are many different sizes of CRT, square LCD, wide LCD and wide LED monitors available on the market at the moment.

If you want an older CRT screen then sizes can range between 14" to about 20", they use the 4:3 aspect ratio.
If you want an older LCD screen then sizes can range from 15" to 19", they also use the 4:3 aspect ratio.
If you want a newer wide screen LCD then sizes can range from 18.5" to about 27" and even larger. They use the 16:9 if they are full HD or 19:10 if they are not ratio.
If you want a newer wide screen LED then sizes can range from 18.5" to about 27" and even larger. They also use the 16:9 if they are full HD or 19:10 if they are not ratio.

Image quality
The sharpness of the image in a monitor greatly depends on your Graphics card as well as whatever resolution you are running at. Nevertheless the quality of the monitor plays an important role.

Here are some of the tips that you should know before buying a monitor.

1. There are three types of monitors namely CRT, LCD and LED. The monitor that looks like a TV is a CRT monitor. In CRT monitors there is a Cathode Ray Tube that shoots electrons into the screen to create the image. An LCD monitor is smaller in width and consumes less power and is healthier if you are going to be spending large amounts of time at your PC. The LED screen looks the same as an LED monitor and the difference between it and the LCD is that it has a much higher contrast ratio resulting in darker blacks and much lighter whites.

3. A CRT monitor is much heavier than LCD monitor as you can imagine by it's bulky appearance. A LCD monitor is very lightweight and so is a LED monitor.

4. The distance between two adjacent pixels in a monitor is called 'dot pitch'. This is measured in millimeters (mm). Smaller the dot pitch the clearer the picture quality. Usually there are monitors with dot pitch varying between 0.20 mm to 0.27mm. Some manufacturers use diagonal dot pitch while most of them use horizontal dotpitch. The diagonal dot pitch is always longer than the horizontal dot pitch

5. Resolution of a monitor has to be considered with care. Most of the CRT monitors have resolutions of 800×600, 1024×768 and 1280x1024. The square LCD monitors have 1280×1024 and 1600×1200 resolutions. Newer wide screen LCD monitors have resolutions of 1600x1900, 1680x1050 and the Full HD 1920x1090. When the resolution is higher the images and text will appear smaller. But you can see more text and bigger pictures in the monitor with high resolution.

6. Another thing to note is the 'Refresh rate'. This rate is usually 60Hz, 73Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz. Refresh rate of 85Hz means the picture on the monitor is refreshed 85 times within a second.

7. The brightness and contrast can range between a low 5 000:1 to a high 80 000:1 in a LCD monitor and an average of 5 000 000:1 in a LED, yes that's 5 million to 1 with a LED. This just shows how much better a LED monitor is to a LCD.

8. If you are a gamer then the thing you have to look at with LCD monitors and LED monitors is the response time. If it is 16ms then this is a very bad monitor for gaming and you will experience a ghosting effect in most games and if it is 5ms then you will have an average gaming experience. What you want to get is a 2ms response time monitor, with it you will have the best gaming experience with no ghosting what-so-ever.

Sir Help me with my Compaq monitor MV520 it won't turn the power led flashing orange to green continously

it could be th epower supply and it could be the monitor.
power ON button should not flash orange regardless what you do. it should stay green. then orange. not orange to green to orange.
try the monitor on another PC if you can fine one.
the other thing is are the 2 monitor similar (CRT to CRT and LCD to LCD), you can't mix the the two, they will work but need different video driver to function correctly.

Ibm 14"crt monitor white light is blinking screen is blank

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Flashing Green Light on mx705 monitor

If the HP has onboard video but you have an add-on video card, remove the add-on and connect the monitor to the onboard vid. If it works you have a bad add-on video card. If it doesn't or you are already running on on-board video hook the mx705 up to a compatible HP. The older PB may be TOO old to handle it or not hve the correct drivers.

Flashing monitor

the ram itself is not related to your problem, but check the VGA lead connections at both ends and see if the connection is loose and also check the power cable. Other than that it may be the monitor circuitry or CRT itself thats the problem and after warming up the problem goes away, so a repair may be needed or a replacement monitor.

LG Flatron 795FT - Led blinking

there is a step by step procedure 1.check the power cord. (try with a new one) 2.check the monitor on other pc, even if it is not working on the other pc, then carry to a service centre. 3.if it is working on the other pc then check the vga slot/card of your pc then 4.try to change the vga card and try connect an other monitor to your pc. so basing on this you will be able to trace the problem. 5.still the problem persists the consult the service centre.
