I'm not sure what you mean by "activate it." Are you are manually pressing down on the lid switch or are you saying that lifting the lid starts the spin cycle? You may just need to adjust it. For whatever reason the actuator on the lid isn't pushing the switch far enough to activate it. It is possible that the actuator broke in some weird way that makes it contact the switch when the lid is opened. Regardless the spin cycle should cease when the lid is opened. The actuator is the wire hinge on the left side of of the lid. They always break where the screws connect them to the lid so you should be able to see it by lifting the lid. You can go here for manuals and exploded views of your machine. The hidden lid switch and actuator are clearly visible if you click the "Top and Cabinet" diagram.

Now i want to say something about your machine. First to be fair i don't know what the reviews of this machine might have been and I've never owned one, but if it serves you well hold on to it. Maytag doesn't make them like that anymore. In fact Maytag doesn't really make them anymore. That repairman died years ago and was never replaced. I'd take a machine like yours (with manual controls and no brain) over every smart h.e. machine i've ever had the misfortune to work on or operate. Sure they save water and they are quiet now but the drain pumps are junk fixing to bust and in my opinion the reason people experience mold and odor problems. They oversuds chronically and then have to sit while the machine decides when and how you can proceed. Doors lock shut at the most inopportune times. Control boards cost hundreds of dollars to replace and diagnosing problems on a "smart machine" can sometimes be more than a little baffling. So treasure it. Just sayin.

SOURCE: Maytag Atlantis washer will not drain and spin unless you lift the lid

The cheaper thing to check first is is your lid bent? The lid switch is in the center of the lid. If it "droops" or has been bent, it shaft on the back of the lid cant hit the switch. Open the lid and apply pressure in the bottom, center of the lid. This usually corrects the problem without replacing the switch.

Washer won't drain or enter spin cycle

SHOULD BE THE LID SWITCH... THERE IS TWO SWITCHS INSIDE, ONE THAT STOP THE MACHINE, AND ONE TO LOCK THE DOOR. YOU SHOULD SEE THERE IS TWO PAIRS OF WIRES THAT CONECT WITH THE LID SWITCH, ONE PAIR IN THE FRONT, AND ANOTHER PAIR IN THE RIGHT SIDE, THAT RIGHT SIDE IS THE PROBLEM, INSIDE THE LID SWITCH MUST BE BROKEN. TRY TO MOVE THE PLATED LOCKING PIN IN THE DIRECTION THAT LOCKS THE DOOR, AND IT MIGHT DRAIN AND SPIN. IF THAT THE PROBLEM, YOU SHOULD GET A NEW SWITCH (MODEL 134101800), AND YOURE DONE.
GOOD LUCK

Dosen't spin unless i open and then close the lid.

Possible there could be some loose connections on the panel board or the controller unit circuit which gets activated when the door is shut. Try to tap instead of opening the door to confirm a loose joint. If not it is related to a RESET fault within the controller , please check the door switch and connections to the controller.

Water fills in, but wash cycle won't start. spin cycle works, changed motor still won't work

Its either in the lid switch or timer. Examine the lid switch. Try starting the wash cycle and press in on lid switch to make sure it activates. If the lid switch is good and you dont hear the motor trying to activate during wash than its in the timer. Does the timer advance? Please comment me back If you need further assistance.

One green flash & 2orange flashes. when the lid is lifted, the carriage won't move to the middle.

First, turn off the printer.

Then, remove/delete all print jobs, if any (printer icon tray > show active printers > select jobs and press delete). If the jobs didnt get exclude and are keeping the status of "excluding/deleting", restart your windows.

After reboot, check if the jobs are gone. If so, turn on your printer and try to print again.

Washer won't do spin cycle....and won't start any cycle

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Curdy, it almost sounds like your lid switch is loose or fractured and the lid actuator is not making the switch. Check this out first and post back...Catriver.
