Put the game into switch test mode and press the trigger on the n/w gun. If it doesn't register you need to dissassemble the gun as the trigger microswitch has probably failed. You'll need an adapter to remove several security screws. Separate the two halves of the gun carefully as there are springs and other parts that can become displaced and lost. Remove and renew the microswitch adjacent to the trigger. It is a low rolling resistance switch manufactured by Cherry. If you have trouble sourcing one, the same switch is used as a trough switch in modern Stern Pinball machines. You may have to shorten the contact legs on the switch to get it to fit. With care this job can be undertaken by any competent person with intermediate soldering skills.

Reimage the hard drive by opening the DVD drive door and inserting the recovery disk, which is obtainable from a distributor such as Betson in the US. Close the DVD drive door and power the game off then on again. Follow any on-screen instructions as the software installs. If this procedure fails or the game still gives trouble, you may have a failing hard drive. You could attempt replacement yourself if you feel up to it, or alternatively send the entire computer unit to a distributor or specialist dealer for testing and possible repair as necessary.

I'm having the same problem. I found that if I put the LED box on TOP of the TV, it will recognize the first target, but not the second or subsequent targets.
It looks to me like this will only work with a smaller TV. The angles seem too large on a big screen TV. I've contacted the manufacturer to see if my guess is right.

I see that you are experiencing fading on the screen and sometimes resets itself on occasions as you mentioned in your post.
Have you tried checking for any lose connections on the machine that can possibly cause shortage in the power or possible ground to the machine, this can be the cause of a fading screen and a reset on an occassion.
Try disconencting every conenction and start conencting everything one by one from scratch then try the machine again if the issue will occur.
Also if possible try a different power outlet from where it is connected and also if you can use a surge protector instead of directly conencting the machine to a power outlet.
I hope that this will be of help.
Have a nice day,
