Your xbox is getting interrupted while download your update through xbox live. try updating your console manually by going to www.xbox.com/support and download the latest update file, use a USB to finish the update.
if you dont have a harddrive then it wont work i beleive if you do have a hardrive try starting it without the internet and make a profile if you havet made one yet, just a profile on the xbox not a xbox live one and it might help
To me it sounds like you are having a DSL problem. If you are not up to calling your ISP for a trouble call, try playing at a friends house with your console and see if the problem happens there also. If it has no problems, then you know your console is not the culprit. You could also try connecting directly to your modem and bypassing the router for testing purposes. If a direct connect to modem works, then look at your router.
Linksys is PnP with Live. You should not have to open any ports. If you get to the point during troubleshooting that you know for sure it is your router, reset it to default settings.
You might need to either, reset your modem, or get a higher internet speed. It can depend on the host also and how good there connection is, i would try to play multiple matches, if problem still persists, i would check and see how fast your internet speed is. I recommend having the fastest speed available by your provider to be safe. Speeds around 6-9 mbps are fine. But also reset your modem you might need to revamp it! And make sure your not doing anything on the computer, it can interrupt it also, especially if your downloading something.
Some game are compatible with the new xbox 360. They are called backwards compatible and you do need to flash upgrade the OS on the new xbox 360 system.
You need to go to the xbox website and go to support and download the flash update then burn it to disk and put it on the xbox to update the software. Again not all old games are compatible with the new xbox system. If your buying used games like I do make sure it says bc next to the title before buying them.
Here is the link to the upgrade
If you have a home network (router) try resetting it. Make sure you reset your console at the same time. You can try resetting your modem. Once you reset either give it 2 mins. to come up. Hope this works, if not contact you ISP (internet service provider).
Because your using laptop computers and a mobile carrier for your internet services this will be a little harder then normal but not imposable.
First what you would need is a ethernet switch or hub. This should allow you use the laptop with the Verizon card as a "Gateway". You would then connect the Xbox 360 to the hub and it would share the internet from the laptop.
Windows XP, and Vista have nice networking wizards that can walk you through the settings. But be aware you may need to change the settings back when you are not using the Xbox 360.
I had this problem for a couple of months before looking into it and I stummbled across this site. None of the solutions worked so I tried other things. The one way that worked was restarting the entire network I havent had a problem since. Enjoy.
