Light turns on but no sound

This is a powered sub, which means it has it's own amplifier providing the power for big bass. When you removed the back you probably removed it's amplifier too so it's normal that now you only get the bass performance of a normal speaker.

A425 subwoofer, more bass? wires came off, no bass managment.

I wouldn't cross wires or leave one disconnected. Can you solder the wires back on the the control knob? Did you feel the subwoofer cone to see if it's working at all? I would guess the wire you didn't connect, is the subwoofer wire. Try putting it back to original cofiguration and solder the wires in place.

My sony STR-DE475 has no bass. The bass just went out after running it for 6 hours.

Either the subwoofer speaker or its amplifier failed - they couldn't handle the extended use. Simple test to find out which: put the volume really low, connect another subwoofer (or a large normal speaker) to the bass output on the receiver and play some music. If you get sound then the original subwoofer is faulty, just get a new one. If you don't get sound then the amplifier for the subwoofer channel has failed. You could replace it yourself if you have enough electronics repair experience, otherwise it will be cheaper to just get another good sh low end receiver from a site like Ebay.

My Mirage S10 subwoofer light comes on showing the subwoofer is on but I cannot get any bass sound to come on. How can this be resolved?

More diagnosis first. We can't assume the source is squawking bass to this thing and you don't mention that you know that to be the case. IS it? The problem could be up the food chain.

We also don't know if you're feeding it Speaker Level or Line Level.

Prove the subwoofer amp is dead or alive by jacking in any source you have that has an RCA output (Tape Out on your unnamed source, CD, TV, etc). Turn the sub volume down to minimum to start as most RCA outputs are at maximum volume. Try that to assess the amp's health. Still dead? Get it worked on.

I just got a Acoustic research S108 PS subwoofer from a friend. No instruction manual. I'm wondering how to connect this to my stereo system. I have an old JVC amp with a out RCA jack marked SUBWOOFER, but...

What makes you feel that isn't right?

You can't just slap a sub onto a receiver and have it work optimally (if at all). The receiver must typically be configured to know it has a sub, then bass managment and sharing decisions must be made, then crossover frequency choices and levels adjusted to match it all up.

All self-powered amps work that way.

Have you looked at the manual for your JVC?

My car subwoofers work, but theres no bass

turn them off and carefully push in on the cone (gently) and listen for scratching or scraping- push strait in and they should flow freely in and out if they DO without feeling or hearing scraping the subs are probably ok, next its either the amp is not powerful enough or the box is not soundly built, by that i mean its too small for the subs- is the box ported or sealed? if ported try plugging off the vent temporarily and see if bass increases if it does i would permanently seal the box

I turned my 15" L7 kicker and smoke started to come out the box

As stated before, knowing the impedance of your subwoofer would really help the situation. Either way the link I have provided is to your subwoofers manual (Incase you dont have it)

But since you have said it has smoked, if it still works I recommend turning the bass boost down (Bass boost causes alot of heat within the subwoofers voice coil and even within the amp itself and should never be maxed out.)

Here is a link to your manual for the subwoofer.
http://www.kicker.com/sites/default/files/SoloBaricL7Series.pdf

So as a solution to your issue, keep your bass boost turned down. You should almost never need it if you have tuned your amp correctly (You have a very serious subwoofer there)

Consider yourself lucky if your subwoofer is still working without issues.

SubWoofer

Sounds like your original and this sub have bad amps. The amp for the sub is not the same as the amp for the other speakers. The old unit has a dead amp and this new one is on the way out. (Pulling too much current on high bass)
