Power down the eMachines computer and unplug it from the power outlet. Remove the left side panel from the computer case by removing the two screws or thumbscrews in the back and sliding the panel toward the back of the computer. Should the panel not move, check to make sure that there isn't a latch or switch on the rear of the computer case that needs to be slid downward in order to remove the panel. Not all cases will have this feature. Locate the hard drive; it should be in a 3 1/2-inch drive bay located beneath the computer's CD and DVD drives. If your computer has a floppy disc drive, the hard drive will most likely be located in a bay beneath it. Check the position of the floppy drive to make sure that you know which 3 1/2-inch drive it is. You should notice two cables plugging into the back of the hard drive; one of these is the power cable that comes from the power supply, and the other is a data cable that is connected to the computer's motherboard. Unplug the power and data cables from the rear of the hard drive, leaving nothing else plugged in to it. Remove the screws that hold it into its mounting bay, setting them aside until you need them for the new hard drive. Slide the old hard drive out of the mounting bay, being careful not to drop it or hit it against any of the motherboard's components. Set the drive aside and pick up your new hard drive, then slide the new drive into the same bay that you just took the old drive out of. Line the small holes in the side of the drive up with the holes in the mounting bay. Secure the new drive by screwing in the screws that you had previously removed, then plug in the power and data cables that you had unplugged from the previous drive. The cables will only plug in when oriented correctly, so you won't have to worry about accidentally plugging them in wrong. Once the cables have been plugged in you can put the side panel back onto the case and plug your eMachines computer in once again.
On a desktop computer WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. How to take pictures off dead emachine

The hard drive must still be working to get the pictures off. The best thing to do is remove the hard drive from the machine and use either an external USB type case to mount the drive into so you can use another computer to explore the drive or there is a tool that just plugs on to the drive with a USB cable and power supply built in that will serve the same purpose. You must get the appropriate type to match the drive type which could be either IDE or SATA. SATA drives use the small cable and IDE use the wide ribbon. If the hard drive is not working, you would have to get specialized and expensive company to retrieve the data from the drive.

How do I install more ram in my Emachine El1210-09? The hard drive is in front of the ram access.

You will most likely have to remove the HDD from the chassis to access the RAM. Most eMachines utilize either tabs or screws to remove the drive. If you can post some pics of the inside of the chassis I can assist further.

My emachines says it cannot find the hard drive and i get blue screen after i restart it

Things to try:
1. Remove and reconnect the hard drive.
2. Remove all USB attached devices. Like other hard drives and anything non-critical.
3. Wipe and reinstall Windows once the hard drive is properly installed.
4. Replace hard drive if bad.

I am being told to stick a paper clip in the hole in front of the tray but there is no hole. I can't find the hole. Where else can I stick soomething in?

Generally there is a small hole under the tray. (The tray is where the disk sits in)

You may have a eMachines desktop computer, where there is an outer door which flips down, and the tray slides out.
Ease the outer door down, and see if the optical drive unit (CD/DVD drive) has a small hole under the tray.

If not then unplug the computer from power, observe Anti-Static Precautions, and open the computer case. Remove the Front Panel. (Plastic front of computer. Now remove the optical drive, and open it up.

I need the Model Number of your eMachines to be more detailed.
Post in a Comment.

I need a Emachines D620 SERVICE MANUAL! I'm needint to replace the hard drive in my friends laptop! READ THIS!!! I AM NOT GOING TO PAY 0.01 FOR SOMETHING I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DOWN LOAD FOR FREE!

One DOESN'T need a service manual to replace a hard drive!

You just need to open the case where the drive is. Usually a few screws that are obvious on a cover on the bottom of the units for most laptops. Some have only a couple screws then a carrier slides out.

There is usually a carrier that may require a couple more screws to remove and then up to four screws holding the drive to the carrier.

There often is an adapter plugged onto the drive which you have to transfer to the new drive in some cases.

Just go slow an keep the screws in little divided tray to make sure you put the right length back for each location.
