Question about Dell Inspiron 1420 Laptop
I took the m key off to see what key type it is, and now I don't know how to put it back on. and the space bar, my baby cousin ripped it off, and when she did, the little plastic pieces holding the metal bars were all crooked and broken, so I cannot reattach it back. any ideas? and yes I could but a new keyboard, but then what do I do when something like this happens again?
There are multiple different designs for laptop keys - so the exact procedure may vary from one machine to another. A good source for instructional videos is:http://www.laptopkey.com/installation_guides.php#modnum
In your case, I would order and replace the existing keyboard, and keep the old keyboard for parts should a key come off in the future.
If you've never replaced a laptop keyboard before, the procedure isn't difficult, but you need to exercise extreme care when disconnecting/connecting the ribbon cable to the motherboard. If you break this connector, you'll end up having to replace the motherboard.
You can find replacement keyboards, and instructions, easily by typing in "Inspiron 1420 keyboard replacement" in Google.

Try reseating the keyboard
if that doesn't resolve then replace the keyboard.
the cursor jumping while typing can be resolved by enabling touchcheck in the touchpad driver settings
