Question about Teac R-H500 Dual Cassette Deck

1 Answer

My Teac LP-R500 audio cassette player squeaks when playing. Tapes do not squeak on my other player.

The machine is only 6 months old so not over used. It worked OK for a week or so after using an old head cleaner tape. Is there a head cleaner system you recommend. Thank you.

It all depends on where the squeak is coming from. Some very clean rubber parts make kind of a squeak but I don't think that is your problem if you use cartridge cleaning systems. The real answer as a 40 year plus Tape Deck Technician is to get in there and see what is causing the squeak- it may need some oil in reel table, Pinch Roller or even the Capstan Bearing. Manufacturers do not like to put oil into
unit as it makes for no repairs and you will not have to buy a new one.
I worked at Teac but this unit is far after my exit- I still do repairs full time on the product though. I am sure I could resolve it- I am in the Chicago are.

Thank you Sam, I live out in the Atlantic Ocean in the Scottish outer Hebrides,Western Isles so I can't pop over to see you so I will try and tackle it myself. So what oil do you use inside a cassette deck? Thank you again, Ron

I use a number of different oils, sewing machine oil, service oil as from a service shop supplier, Tri Flow and synthetic oil depends on the application and size of bearing. Any would work. Light grade synthetic motor oil has been used.

SOURCE: cassette playback

Hi, I am brand new to this site. So I may not be very good. However your prob sounds like one I had a few years back. I solved mine by using two pencils, one in each hub.
Then winding manually from one to the other. This is quite time consuming, but it worked for me. Hope this helps, if not, sorry for wasting your time.

SOURCE: My Teac R-H500 tape deck will not play tapes

The belts will have failed. You will need to replace them for the deck to be reliable. If you are mechanically minded I can talk you through it... You giving me a FixYa rating will help my profile and loosen my lips on how to overhaul your deck. :)

How can I get an instruction manual?

Recording from tape is very similar to recording from the turntable, but you have to select tape as the source. There will be a button labelled something like PHONO/TAPE/AUX with which you select TAPE and then record as you would for a vinyl disc but you press play on the tape instead of playing a record. Here's something very similar which should help you. Good luck and I hope you get to save your memories.

Firstly double check that the recordable discs you have bear the label "Digital Audio" on them as per the attached picture. Secondly what happens when you go through the finialise procedure in the manual? Do you see the ?FIn--d? display when you select the finialise button? Do you see ?NO TOC? and ?REC? indicators blinking at the next step? Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

Question (not a "problem") -

Yes, you can. You need a cable (A 3.5 to 3.5 audio jack - you can buy it for a few bucks at your local store) that plugs into the Microphone jack in the computer and the Headphone jack in the cassette player. After that, use a recording software (Such as AudaCity) and select the input microphone as the recording device. All you have to do, is press Record in the software and push play on the player. Good luck and best regards,Yuri.

My Electrolux washer is only 6 months old and the drum has started squeaking. What could the problem be?

NOT Solution - I just bought one last week and it squeaked for me today. Sounded like a belt. As the washer added more water to the drum to soak the clothes, the squeak went away. So not sure if belt slightly out of alignment - hence it rubs or perhaps a roller knob needs adjustment is what I am thinking.

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...

What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.

Teac A-21 Stereo Cassette Tape Deck turns un, but won't play cassette tapes...

very likely that the drive belt has broken. I have fixed a TEAC myself using a large O-Ring from a hardware store (I know I was lucky to find a very close match). Open the unit and find the broken belt and take it to a hardware store to "size up" a replacement. Use the opportunity to oil the gear shafts and clean the rubber pinch roller.
