Re: troubleshooting lines in pictures

Hmmm, kinda vague on your query. Lines show up where? I'll take a stab at the most common place where lines show up and that's on the ink jet print itself. When lines & bars show up generally you need to clean the print heads & your printer has a utility to do that - somewhere.

Unless you have a circuit diagram and have electronic knowledge the it is best left to an expert camera repair specialist.
The costs? Your guess is as good as mine. Camera repairers may charge a quote for repairing unless you go ahead with the repair.

Picture quaility is very poor, lines through the pitures. it started with only zoomed in pictures were this way, now its with all pictures.

Lines through the pictures is caused by a scratch or a defect on the lens, but sometimes, it's just on the camera screen. Try uploading your pictures to your computer, if the lines still show up then return the camera to your nearest service repair (or the place you bought your camera at) with your warranty card so they can fix this problem without you spending any money.

Any answer as to what caused this? Thanks

The pictures have horizontal lines

This is electronic shutter problem that is the reason you get blinder effect/ noise on picture. Electronic shutter is located in lens mechanism and lens assembly will be replaced to solve the issue. Nearest Samsung service center or local camera repair shop will help you to replace lens assembly.

I understand that sometimes the memory card, if used, can be removed and blown off. And, the contacts inside the camera can be blown off so that dust and dirt are removed.

Sometimes this is the cause of the lines.

However, it's a brand new camera, and probably isn't dirty, you might say.

Another cause is pointing it into the sun. But, you did not mention that you did this on a regular basis, so I don't think that's the problem, either.

If it's brand new, I would take it back for a replacement within 30 days of purchase and see if that solves the problem.

Good luck.

Vertical lines & white screen outdoors

I've seen similar symptoms in broadcast cameras and it can sometimes be compensated for by lowering the "v-sub" voltages to the CCD. Not sure if that applies to your camera but it's an idea to check out.
Unfortunately it's not the kind of adjustment for a user. It's more likely found in a service manual for

Unable to focus camera.

The common cause of lines across the picture is a stuck shutter. This will cause over exposed pictures, out of focus, with lines across them. If the problem is infact a stuck shutter it will require full disassembly to fix, which will be somewhere between $100 and $200 to fix depending on where you send it. An image sensor failure, or focus motor failure can also cause simular problems - but they also cost simular amounts to fix. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
