SOURCE: BBQ will not heat up to cook meat

you had the burners on before you opened the valve on the propane tank.

this causes the safety in the pressure regulator to cut off most of flow, and the highest temp you'll get will be about 200 degrees.

turn off the burners and the tank, then disconnect the tank and let site for a few minutes. reconnect everything, and make sure you open the tank valve before the burner valves.

I have heard that the "new" propane tanks have a saftey valve that closes if they are opened too quickly, try opening the valve very slowly. When you say it has been cleaned that means you have checked the venturi and the burner for spiders?

There may be a separate control for the meat drawer down where the drawer is. If not, you use the fridge temp control. Make sure the vent between the freezer and fridge is opening and closing when you adjust the temp.

The best thing you can do is to buy a BBQ digital thermometer that you place in the meat during cooking. They have a heavy duty wire with a temperature probe on the end. Sear the meat directly over the coals (or hot side of a gas grill), then move the meat to a cool side and then insert the temperature probe and close the grill lid. Cook until it reaches desired temp, for me 125 degrees is perfect. The total cooking time is hard to judge as it depends on your grill cooking temp, but the digital thermometer takes all of the guesswork out of the equation as to when the meat is done.

yes - digital probe thermometers are very good for testing whether meat is cooked. The thin sensor is inserted into the fattest part of the meat. A wire then runs from the sensor out of the oven door, so that you can keep an eye on the temperature without having to keep taking it out the oven.

Hi! I just bought a Weber pocket digital thermometer and want to know if I shall leave it in the meat in the oven during all the roasting time or insert and check once in a while? Please help.


It is not designed to be left in the meat, while in the oven. It's an insta-read type of thermometer for occasionally checking the internal temperature, in the thickest portion of the meat, while cooking. Be careful not to insert it in such a way, that it touches a bone, It will give a false reading, if it does.

I left mine in a hot tub for well over an hour. It started reading room temp at about 125 degrees. It worked for me to put the thermometer in the freezer until the readings were correct. hope this works for you.
