Question about Onkyo TX-SV454 Receiver

1 Answer

Surround mode is set to OFF

I just bought this ONKYO TX-SV454 receiver from a guy on Craigslist and when I hooked everything up I noticed it is stuck in Surround Mode: OFF, so I get no audio from center & subwoofer speaker. I do not have the remote so I'm not sure if this is something that has to be set from a remote.

I was able to solve this problem by using the "A" speaker jacks and eventually I pushed the right buttons to get the Surround mode to turn ON. I believe it was when I hit the Parameter Selection button that allowed the surround mode to become active.

So what do i do if when i turn my onkyo tx-sv454 receiver on it says protect and then shuts off? How do i fix that or get around it? please help me....

I don't think you can fix it, unless you're skilled with electronics. Possibility that something has occurred internally with a circuit board etc so the system shuts down in order to protect itself from catching on fire etc. Get it services. Might not be too bad of an issue, but certainly not a bypass.

I buy a new tv, samsung led tv. the problem is that we cannot connect the sound from tv to reciever

I bought a new ford electric car.
I am trying to install my Sony XYZ stereo in it but it doesn't hook up.
What do I do?

Ok, now we've isolated the problem in the structure of your question.
Without knowing a single thing about WHAT samsung LED tv you have, nobody can really help you.
Please be much more specific about the TV and how everything is hooked up and what it's hooked up to.

Just purchased a Panasonic DMT-350 with analog 7.1 out and hooked up to my Onkyo 989 but tried everything and i mean everything to get my rear surround to play but no luck....pleeeeeease help me.

Hi.

Connect the Panasonic to one of the AV inputs on the Onkyo. Use red white and yellow AV cables. Connect the output from the Panasonic to one of the five AV video inputs on the Onkyo (or use the DVD dedicated input in the Onkyo backpanel). I indicated this option using red arrows. You can use any of the AV inputs or the DVD input at the bottom. Just ensure you do not connect to an output at the back of the Onkyo.

Alternatively use component cables and optical audio input, as indicated using the blue arrows in picture below. Select source and listen surround from the Onkyo.

There are more options. In some case you may decide to connect the DVD video output to TV and the audio to the Onkyo.

Here a manual for the TX DS989.

Trouble with the hooking up wiring for receiver, DVD/VCR combo and satellite to new DLP TV.

Jar50, lacking model numbers for your TV and Satellite, I would suggest connecting your DTV Satellite OPTICAL out to your 65"DLP. Connect your 65"DLP OPTICAL out to your Onkyo TX-DS484 OPTICAL in. If you are using the DIGITAL COAX, just substitute the instructions above from OPTICAL to COAX.
Hope this helps.

Stuck in protect mode

i believe protect mode is because you have the wrong impedence speakers, they are too low (4 ohm? 6 ohm?) it chols work with 8 ohm speakers
