OK. I assume the display does not say 'locked' when you press eject. A DVD drawer is run by a small rubber belt on most of these old machines. This belt can be worn out (Very common) The DVD drawer position is detected by a switch that can be pressed in or out to detect the drawer is closed or open. This switch can cause the drawer to stay in if it thinks the drawer is not yet closed. Cleaning the switch (Take the DVD drive out and remove and clean or replace the switch) can usually fix this. A fault with the DVD process cicuit board can also cause this. I would recommend a new machine if this is the case. Testing: Bad belt - the DVD drawer shifts a bit when the eject button is pressed. Bad switch - a whirring sound can always be heard when the DVD is first powered on. May give an error in the display. Bad process board - Generally, says open forever or close forever and will not change back to normal display. You cannot get any other functions to work after you press eject. Unplug the machine, its normal until you press eject again. (just a generic common thing)
Could be a timing issue with the tray mechanism - possible that somebody has given the tray "a shove" to make it close instead of using the open/close button and has put the timing out.or a worn tray loading belt
Double check the Ribbon Cable Connector is installed Correctly ( 40-80 Strand IDE ) sometimes if these are not fitted squarely Or pushed in hard enough. Can cause a Problem.
Also try the emergency eject procedure on The Drive. Small jewellers screwdriver Or Needle, insert into the drives faceplate ( pinhole in drives faceplate drawer ) push to open dvd drawer. pull out drawer Gently. And push back in. This ocassionally works for a stcking Drawer/eject mechanism.
Finally try the drive without a disk in ( open/eject Or Close )
you need to replace the dvd loader(the whole setup, the draw/tray,laser sled assy ,etc) statewide sell
parts for lg.unless you know an authorised lg repair agent.too bad you dont know me, lol.
(ps,its not in the manual, cuz there is nothing you can really do about it without serviceing the unit)
The cd tray eject after put in the DVD movies, but VCD working fine...it is means that the drive's region code haven't set yet .(please refer to user manual to setting the region code) ..or unplug the recorder drive from the dvd player, using the computer setting to change the region code by connecting to computer's IDE cable .
I am pursuing the exact problem above. I have found a not so hi tech solution. I firmly rap on the top above the disc drawer. This is while Close is being displayed and the drawer is in. If you hear some spinning and load displays it should now work. It may be back to cycling again on the next ejection though. Technically I figure it may be a sticky magnetic reed switch or what ever they use to detect the drawer position. Mine displays either open or close when it starts to cycle.
