My Kitchenaid dishwasher not cleaning dishes on top shelf

Does not seem to be getting water to the top shelf to clean the dishes.

I saw the solution -- I tried to clean the jets - this did not make any difference - is there a specific cleaning solution to use. Also how do you clean out the filter on the bottom -- on some dishwashers a filter trap can be removed -- can't find a way to remove it. Any other suggestions -- dishes on bottom shelf get cleaned - nothing happens on the top shelf -- I'm positing the dishes correctly. Thanks in advance for any help.

The dishes on our top rack are consantly covered with soap residue and food particles. The filter and jets are clean, but it appears neither the top sprayer of the middle sprayer are putting out any water

I am having the same problem. I have completely removed the spray arms, trays, and the shaft that brings the water up to the upper arm. Cleaned them all and replaced. Still no cleaning on the top shelf. As time goes, it appears it is not cleaning as well on the bottom either.

Same thing, water not getting to the top. I've checked the spray arm, there is no sign of blockage or even residue, but I will try cleaning it. I'll report back here if it does help, though.

Mine is doing the same thing! Thankfully it is under warranty, so I will call a repair man.

I did try vinegar..It still doesn't seem to be working right.

Ive had the same problem twice, both times it was related to the food chopper getting clogged as a result of the plastic coupling between drive and chopper snapping. About $15 for a replacement and it fixes problem.

Its a bit difficult to replace but if you have time, it can save you $150+

This is certainly a pressure problem that plagued a large percentage of Kitchenaid/Whirlpool dishwashers in homes, and here is the fix:
My dishwasher was never able to clean dishes well since new, so I took a closer look and found a design problem with the water supply tube on the back wall. There are two holes with rubber flap in the middle of the pipe, but only one is used. The bottom rubber flap is supposed to be closed, however, due to poor design in fitment, the flap will not stay tightly shut, therefore leaking precious water pressure to the mid and upper sprayer. Even the lower sprayer will be weak due to the lack of back-pressure. I took apart the flapper assembly and siliconed the bottom flapper shut, then carefully snapped back the plastic cover assembly, so the rubber will stay properly seated in the poorly designed trim. My dirty dishes come out super clean now even in quick cleanup mode!
Make sure the water supply tube is properly sealed from bottom to top! Very important to have good seal so you get a strong water pressure all the way to the top sprayer.

You need to clean the jets on the machine arm with an old toothbrush etc... then clean out the debris filter on the bottom of the tub near the dryer bar. The calcification in the little jet areas causes this problem. This should help.

Dishes on top shelf not getting clean

Check your upper wash arm.... check the holes, especially the ones at the end of the arm. Are they possibly clogged with debris or hard water? This is the usual cause of dishes on the top rack not getting clean. The holes at the end of the wash arm are angled to eject the water at an angle to use the reaction to push the wash arm around. If those holes are clogged, then the arm won't rotate, and only those few dishes or glasses right under the arm will get clean, and the remaining 80% of the dishes on the upper rack won't get clean!

I know this isnt the same model, they dont carry your manual as of yet. But it does have some suggestions to look at on page 17. I had the same problem and I looked really carefully and found my sprayer arm was blocked. I cleaned it out and havent had a problem with it again. I do check it regular now.

The dishes on the top shelf does not seem to get clean. Does not appear water is coming out of the top spinning module.

Take out the top spinner and clean it thoroughly with descaler and degreaser / very hot soapy water. Soak it for a while and it will work wonders. Put it back in the machine and it will work like new.

MY KITCHENAID DISH WASHER TOP SHELF IS NOT CLEANING AT ALL .

There may be something plugging up the arm that sprays over the dishes. And of course, I'm sure you know not to place items like bowls, pots, etc that will block the flow of water from the bottom sprays.

Although the bottom jets do most of the working cleaning the top items, the spray from above is vital. Take the stem pipe leadin from the top to the bottom off and separate the spray arms carefully. If you can, look throgh each end to make sure no deposits are in there.

Another way is to blow compressed air from the center stem down in the water supply unit. If food particles are there you'll see them.

Dishes on top rack don't get clean

The following suggestions will greatly enhance the ability of your dishwasher to clean all of the dishes thoroughly:

1. Rinse all of the food off of the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.

2. Run the hot water into the sink until it is as hot as it gets before you start the dishwasher.

3. Do not pack the dishes into the dishwasher, just put in a reasonable number without crowding or stacking them on either shelf.

4. Pull the top shelf all the way out to be sure that the water connection at the rear of the top shelf is connected. Sometimes, this connector comes disconnected preventing the water from entering the top spray assembly.

THese things should make a huge difference.

Good luck with this and please rate my answer. Thanks. Joe

Upper rack dishes not cleaning well

Yes, run an empty load with 1/4 cup vinegar. It sounds like there is mineral build up in the arm. Try to take the arm apart that supplies water to the top rack of the dishwasher. You can soak this in vinegar water once removed.
