This is either a bad primary interlock (bottom door switch) or a defective electrolytic capacitor on the circuit board (smart board).

I would suspect the switch first, but the buzzing would make me suspect the capacitor, too. It could be both, but one thing at a time.

I would suggest that you or a friend check the door switch and its mount.

If it's not that, we regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

Here are three helpful files:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

If a switch is all you need, we offer a universal type for only $5 postpaid which you can order here.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave won't come out of start up mode. Clock flashing 00:00 and interior light on. Just moved house, owned micro for 3 years, lost manual in move. Please help.

could be a broken door hook; defective door microswitch or the microswitch bracket itself. the door just may need adjustment; as many people lift microvave by the bottom of the door; which is a no-no.

Does not cook - time counts down extremely fast

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.
and please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

Setting time on sharp microwave

Normally it's
Clock > time numbers > Clock
or
Clock > time numbers > Start

Sometimes it's
Clock > (1 or 2) > time numbers > Clock
or
Clock > (1 or 2) > time numbers > Start

If this doesn't work, please reply back with your model number.

Sounds like a defective door interlock switch or a broken switch mount. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If it's not a problem with the door switch or door switch mount, it may be a problem on the control board. We repair these for $39.95 for customers nationwide. Reply back if you still ned help.

Microwave was installed yesterday by "handyman"

Sounds like you have a defective door switch, door switch mount, or (worse) possible damage to the "hooks" which go into the holes in the chassis to activate the switches. Be sure to unplug it first. If this is an over the range model, you should not have to remove it from the wall to fix it. Generally speaking, you remove the grille across the front, then you'll see a screw holding the control panel frame on. Once that's removed, you lift the control panel assembly up and out. Then you can see the door switches and lathces, etc. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your base model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
