Check the air pump. If you are lucky the rotor is busted. If not, see if the fan spins freely with no binding. If so, the starter relay is bad, if equipped. Some heaters have external relays, others have internal relays and are not serviceable. Could also be a bad bearing. Could also be - someone sat on the heater or dropped something on it, or it fell out of the truck and the sheet metal is squashed and is against the fan blade.

115,000 btu reddy heater, 5 hrs used in sprayfoam-grinding environment. stopped working. when plugged in, only hums for a few seconds, then stops. how can i fix that?

First, remove the top cover. Inspect for a varmint nest. If clear, manually spin the fan. If it does not you either have a broken rotor that is binding or you have a bad bearing.

If it spins freely, apply power- see if the motor runs with the top cover removed.
If YES, replace the top cover. Its possible that the top is binding the fan.
If NO, the start capacitor is defective. The cap on R115 is internal and is not servicable.

Hello i havent Used my ready heater 60000 btu since last winter. It was working fine when i unpluged and emptied it...now when i plug it up i hear a hum and nothing else no blower or anything....could ude...

Hi,
The fan motor is setup...
Tear it part and get some WD-40 worked into the motor at the shaft end... then when you get it spinning freely... get some light motor oil worked into the bearing...

Works best if you can tip the heater back so the WD-40 and oil naturally run back into the motor...

Reddy Heater 70 (Kerosene) won't start

In the same temperature range that is giving you trouble, run an ext cord (110v) from a known good household circuit and plug the heater into the cord. If the heater runs OK, then the inverter is your problem.

Kerosene forced air heater will not light, only hums.

Your problem may be as simple as the vanes of the rotor stuck to the pump body, or a rats nest binding the fan blade, or the starter relay being defective (if equipped ) . On the other hand, the bearings in the motor could be frozen up. The motor is not servicable and must be replaced. Start by disassembling the air pump, remove the vanes & rotor, then attempt to start the motor. If it still hums, then you have motor or relay problems.

If the vanes were stuck, clean it up, reassemble (no oil) , set the pump pressure.

try this, take off the top cover. plug in the heater and when the humming starts, rotate the fan sharply with a screwdriver. keep your fingers away from the fan. if the fan spins under power your start winding is shot. get a new motor. www dot desatech dot com

Please HELP

www dot desatech dot com is a parts distributor for reddy heat products. on their main page they have a short troubleshooting guide. the motor needs to provide 3.5 psi of air across the fuel nozzle to suck the fuel out of the reservoir. check your ignition source (spark plug, hot surface igniter) if the hot surface igniter is broken get a new one, if the spark plug don't spark, check the gap might be too big. see if the spark plug is grounded. poor grounds will cause intermittent sparking. check the high voltage wire for breaks in the insulation, might be shorting out to ground BEFORE the plug. gap should be 75 thousandths.
