Question about Tappan MGF500PBW Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

The pilotless ignition clicking constantley

The pilot light ignition is clicking constantly regardless if the burners are turned on. The gas turns on when you turn on the burner knobs but continues to click. When you turn all the oven/burner knobs off the clicking continues constantly. Have unplugged range and turned off gas value.

Prior to this, when you heat up the oven, the gas would turn off and the pilot light ignition would start clicking

The pilot adjustment screw is located on the back side of the oven temperature thermostat. Lift the cook top to access it. Use a flat screwdriver to adjust... counter clockwise= bigger flame.

There must be a problem in one of the switches which is behind one of the knobs. Will have to check each switch with a meter.

SOURCE: Electric spark for gas range burner is non stop

Turning any knob starts the spark via a switch behind each which should disengage when the (any) knob is turn further.
One of your switches is stuck.

I think you should be able to remove the range-top for access and find the offending switch.
It is probably gummy from a spill and is no longer in solid contact with the cam that operates it.

A solvent/lubricant such as WD-40 sprayed on the plunger of the switch once you can see it and operating the knob back and forth should free it up.

It might be wise to turn off the gas supply while tinkering with the range - blow your house away and the range won't matter. :-(

SOURCE: Older Tappan range oven not lighting.

There is no way to light the oven manually. The gas valve will not open until the oven ignitor draws enough current. But replacing the ignitor will fix ya up.

check the burner socket, it is likely that contact is being lost where the burner connects to the hardwired portion of the system (the socket). It is not unusual for the socket to "burn up" when there is a poor connection to the burner resulting in the burner being replaced and the new burner not working or working intermittently.

How do I lite the oven pilot

If it's an older model with a true pilot light you turn on the gas at supply line valve, open oven door, remove bottom panel to access pilot and burner. Sometimes it's easier to remove broiler drawer on these models but regardless take a lighter and light pilot. Most models are electronic ignitions which if you have it probably needs replaced if it doesn't ignite the burner in under a minute or minute and 15 secs. It could also be a bad thermostat if the burner ignites within the time period described above

Pilotless ignition

its the safety solenoid. thinks the gas is on, they have them fitted so if the gas is flowing and don't heat the switch it will keep sparking till it does. you will need a gas engineer to sort this out. as there is seals that if you dont put back on right you cancause a gas leak.

The gas is connected on the rear side of the stove but the pilot light is not lit, nor will it light. trying to trouble shoot the problem before deciding to purchase a new oven/range. Also, I remember...

You may have a pilotless ignition.Check around door frames for model #plate.
Also , open broiler door ,turn on oven and look inside . If you see an orange glow appear after awhile, that is the electronic igniter and you have an electronic ignition(no pilot). In this case the top burners use a spark ignition system. If you don,t hear clicking when you turn on a burner your ignition module might be bad.
Easily fixed though.

How do i turn the pilot light off. I want to use a bug fogger in my apartment and i want to temporarily turn off the pilot on my stove

This model should have pilotless electronic ignition. If you hear clicking when you light the burners , it is electronic,. Also , open broiler drawer and turn on oven .After a few seconds do you see a glow start?Thats your electronic oven igniter confirming you have no pilot.

The oven won't heat. Can I relight something?

does your oven have a pilot light or an ignitor (pilotless)? If it has an ignitor, it probably needs replacing. I can't help you if it does have a pilot light. Do you hear clicking when you turn your burners on, if yes, that means you have an ignitor system.

We spilled liquid into the gas burner by accident and it won't stop clicking. We can't find how or where to unplug it? GE PROFILE GAS STOVETOP RANGE

Won't stop clicking?
When?
Is it clicking constantly or only when you attempt to ignite a burner?
Normally the clicking can be traced to the electronic ignition that activates when you turn the burner on.

Regardless if you need to turn it off but do not have easy access to the back of the unit, you can always shut it off at the circuit breaker located in the breaker/fuse box.

Hope this helps but if not just let me know.

I just cleaned by hand by magic chef wall oven and now I can't

Pilotless ignition means that a hot surface ignitor lights the oven burner. It does take a little bit of time to light the burner. Maybe 30 seconds. If you want to make sure it lights take the bottom panel out from the oven and observe the hot surface glow and the burners light. No real danger as the gas valve will only open after the hot surface ignitor has satisfied the gas valve. Let me know how it goes. ken

Oven will not light

Most gas ranges currently available employ one of 3 basic gas ignition systems; pilot ignition, hot surface ignition system (which uses a 'glow bar' or 'glow coil' - aka an "ignitor") and a spark ignition system. The latter two being referred to as "electronic ignition" systems as they use electricity in one form or another to operate the oven heating system. Only the pilot ignition system has an actual "pilot" (which is a small but real "flame") which might need manual lighting.

If the surface burners of a range are a spark ignition type, the oven IS one of the possible kinds of electronic ignition systems and thus will not usually have a "pilot" which needs lighting. Be aware though that just because the surface burners might light via a spark doesn't necessarily mean the oven uses the spark type ignition system too. spark-anim1.90x11.gif
There is one older style of electronic ignition system which does also use an oven pilot but it is very rare and such a system hasn't been used in oven models since the early to mid 70's. It is the 'constant pilot' *electronic ignition* system
