I can't get out of demo mode either. There are two explanations on the net that I have found.

One solution is that suggested below but I do not have a size button on my PRS-T2 nor does the power switch "slide" (the power switch is a button).

    These instructions for the PRS-T1http://t1-reader.ru/en/reference/demomode.html

(I wish that the comment screen would wait until i press "add comment" rather than submitting every time I press return) But the above instructions do not work. I can reset. I can get the device to restart using the power button. I can press the back and return buttons simultaneously, but this does not result in the demo mode being switched off.

I have also tried other combinations of buttons (such as the forward and return button on either side of the home button, and the back and settings button, furthest left and furthest right but in all cases even though I wait through the two start up screens (opening book and recycle mark) waiting till the "now reading" is no longer displayed on at the top left before releasing the two keys but my device remains in demo mode.

I found the answer at last. Despite instructions to fiddle around with the reset button and arcane combinations of buttons to press on start up, in my PRS-T2 the demo mode is controlled by a check box in the settings menu.

Touch "Applications" > "Settings" > "System Settings" >"Demo Mode" (turn the check box off) and you are done.

SOURCE: my sony ereader prs-650 is

The Sony Reader used a special type of display; the LCD can retain an image without having power. It takes power while changing the pages. In most of the cases, if the power is fully discharged, the LCD will keep the last image that was displayed it makes an impression that the Reader is frozen. However, the Actual thing is, the screen retains the last image on the screen and there is no power to change the pages. These type of situations can be resolved by charging the Reader sufficiently.

Each step in my solution is a possible resolution. Hence I suggest that you perform each step and check the operation.

Charge the battery fully by connecting to a computer or by using a compatible AC Adaptor. It may take a few minutes (up to 15 minutes) to display the charging symbol if the Reader is fully drained in its last use.

Once the reader is charged fully (at least 45 minutes), slide the power button to turn ON.

Perform a soft reset. We can perform a soft reset by pressing the reset button on the Reader.

After the RESET button has been pressed, slide the POWER switch to activate the Reader device again. If the Indicator light next to the power button on the Reader device is yellow, the unit is attempting to start up. If this is the case, allow it a few moments to complete startup.
If the Reader is still not charging up properly, connect the Reader to computer or AC Adaptor and then press the reset button.

Disconnect the Reader device from the computer (if applicable) and then slide the POWER switch to activate the Reader device. Check if the Indicator light next to the power switch on the Reader device is yellow (indicating it is turning on) and if the unit is responding

If the unit is still frozen, connect it again to the computer or AC adapter and while connected, check if the Indicator light next to the power switch on the Reader device is red . If this light is red , allow the Reader device to charge for one hour so there is sufficient charge for troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, perform a hard reset to resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to perform a hard reset:

Under certain circumstances, moisture condensation can occur. Moisture condensation can be caused by moving the Reader device between temperature extremes or if the Reader device has come in direct contact with moisture. If you suspect moisture as the cause, allow the Reader device to sit for a few hours before attempting to turn it back on

Plug it in to your pc and factory reset it, if that don't do it try a Bluetooth keyboard, or order another screen and be very delicate when you installing it. Good luck

I purchased a used Sony PRS 700. It is locked in

If the Demo mode is appearing on the Reader and you're not able to do anything in the Reader, it seems that there is an internal issue occurred with the Reader. However, since you've already performed soft reset and hard reset with the Reader, the service of the Reader is the only available options. The PRS700 Reader is covered under the Sony exchange program. This exchange is for the same or comparable model. Please follow the below mentioned link to get it repaired or exchanged from Sony:
