Question about Maytag Neptune Washer
If the load is more than a few pieces the washer will continue repeating the cycle at 8 min/ Sometimes it will finally count down to zero; but usually we must take the clothes out when still wet.
It is possible that when the load is more the drive pulley slips and does not get to the set RPM. This can be due to many reasons and so it can be related to no drain of water and thus making the timer to count down. Check the drive by removing the bottom plate, roll it with your hands to check for friction.

you know, this does happen.
run it on a full cycle, warm, with either of these in solution.
baking soda, at 1/10 concentration
non chlorine bleach, at 1/6 concentration
you most likely need to do this more than once, until your nose is happy.
Also, consider doing this at least once every 200 wash cycles.
essential oils have same effect, and do a nice anti microbial as well.
we did this in commercial laundries all the time, as part of standard health code compliance issues.

I replaced the motor and circuit board but that did not fix it. I changed the out of balance switch and the shock absorbers or snubbers. I think the ultamate fix was the snubbers. it has worked great since. They wear out like your car shock absorbers allowing the drum to shake too much triggering the out of balance switch to stop and restart the spin.

Is your door lock light on when machine is in use? I am having the same issue as you and I believe it is because my door is not locking during use.
