Hello Liz, You may have two problems. If your unit is several years old, the battery may need to be replaced. First charge the battery overnight. To get the screen unfrozen , you need to remove the screws on the back, open the case, and unplug the white battery connection . Reconnect the battery connection after a few seconds. If this works, it is usually a temporary fix . Either your battery does not hold a charge or your charger connection is poor at best and can not deliver a full charge to the battery. It could be both.
Which model do you have---the owner manual usually has this info--mine was several hours (8) but it varies by model---actually mine new in box did power up and show display fine--but I charged it full.
I found a Magellan Roadmate in the dumpster when I was dumping the trash off my truck. They were even so kind to leave the charging cord.I figured out that the charging cord wasn't connecting to the unit when plugged in.It took 20 minutes to figure out how to pop the case open(retainer tabs on all sides in addition to the screws).Once opened up,it took 5 minutes to repair the solder connections from the power socket to he circuit board.Works like new!
This is normal, this come straight of the satellite. To speed up process or bypass, reboot system. To Manually reboot this model, turn unit off like normal. Then when turning on, keep button down as it fires up, DO NOT release on button, keep it down until all fires up and even about 10 seconds passed, then let go. This reboots it and cleans up a lot of ****. Thanks Mike. Please if this helps, please give me 4 thumbs up, to help me and others.
if that dont work, turn it off again fully charge it then reboot it manually again. This should do it!
Same thing happened to me. It was working fine yesterday, until I arrived at my destination, then it froze and when I restart it, it stops at the spinning clock. I'm so mad at myself for not researching the update and finding out that this is happening a lot!!
I don't think I have my receipt. It will be interesting to see if Magellan charges me for THEIR mistake!
On the menu bar ( the top bar where it says Sytem Settings) Tap left
corner twice, right corner twice, left corner once, right corner once.
It will bring up a hidden menu. The first thing on the hidden menu is
reset for first use. Press that and you have done the equivalent of a
I accidentally ran into this problem today when I inadvertantly plugged the wrong charger into the unit. I'm guessing that the device isn't getting the precise current it's expecting and thus thinks it's plugged into a computer. I'd suggest getting hold of a different charger and see if the problem goes away.
Send it back GET A REFUND.. I am ditching my Roadmate 700 (cost over £800 34 years agao) .. Magellan Support is so useless, they don't respond. .. just don't seem to care - how French! (and I say this with 28 years working knowledge in France)
