Question about Toshiba TP43H95 43" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Toshiba tp43h95 will not turn on completely

Hello, I have a tp43h95 Toshiba Cinema Series TV. When I plug it in, I hear the power click on, but nothing comes onto the screen. Once on, the power light blinks about every second. The remote is working fine, can turn on (but not off) from remote. From what I have read online it could be stuck in standby mode. I do not have/could not find a user manual. I do not want to invest any money into the TV as it is so old, and am not technical so need a couple simple suggestions. I do have a cable/internet box which has one line going to the TV & one to the wireless router. The DVD player is connected to the router, which enables me to watch Netflix on my TV. It is possible I turned the TV off while set to VIDEO 1. I have a universal remote which has been working (do not have original remote). TV was just given to me a couple months ago, so don't know it's history. I have been leaving for a day or more at a time & sometimes unplug the router/cable box to save energy. Any suggestions appreciated.

You will need to trouble shoot the start up and shutdown circuits. Often this is a minor component failing causing the set to not power up or go into protective shutdown. Do you have the service manual for this TV?

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Dont have the remote to aline the colors toshiba tp43h95

You cannot complete the convergence adjustment on most TVs without the remote. You can usually use a good quality universal remote to complete the tast, such as a logitech harmony. If you know someone that has one then its free, but to buy the harmony is more then just to buy a new toshiba remote, which you can get here:
http://www.partstore.com/Part/Toshiba/Toshiba/23306269/New.aspx?ModelMfgName=Toshiba&ModelBrandName=Toshiba&ModelNumber=TP43H95

Its part number is: 23306269 so you can also seach around online for it.

Toshiba TP43H95 projection tv has power but no picture

If it shuts off and then the power light starts blinking red or it never comes on but the power light just blinks red continuously that is usually indicative of the convergence ICs (STK 392-110). You never want to replace the ICs without also replacing the resistors that are associated with them. There are usually 6 resistors, one for each of the colors and there corresponding direction, IE Red horizontal, red vertical, blue horizontal, ect. In the case of this model tv all of the resistors are 2.2 Ohm and 2watts. You will find them right where the STK 392-110 ICs are. Right in front of them. They are blue and have this color code on them. Red, red, gold, gold. These are represented by stripes on the resistors. You can get the parts from www.bdent.com They carry the ICs and the resistors. If you do not feel comfortable completing this repair I could do it for you if you send me the board. My email address is: missionelectronics@sbcglobal.net The cost is 375.00 and that includes parts.
Good Luck.
