I need a wiring diagram for a 82harley sportster

Junkshen plug in head light melted need to bypass if possible. Can't buy just plug have to buy hole harness. Can get some things working put not all. Can't figure out which wires go were.

SOURCE: stator wiring overhaeting

My 96 GSXR was doing this too. I found I had oil leaking into the stator case. This had "washed" the insulation off the windings (I think) causing it to short out. It shorts worst when it is hot. Now when I disconnect the generator while running it runs great. Reconnect, and a huge blue spark arcs across the plug. This causes a huge current flow at this plug (back and forth). I haven't gotten all my parts yet to try out my diag. Check under your stator cover, or just continuity test it in the bike (OHMs meter).

May I suggest a trip to your local library. Cycle repair books should be in 646 stacks of reference.
Otherwise you can Google for 2003 Clymer Service manuals on the internet.
I think Clymer had electrical diagrams in their books. I doubt that any except the HD service book would have anything about the physical location of the harness, but the pictures in the other books would help you.

The sportster did not come with a Big Twin 86" motor it came with the Sportster Ironhead & Evo motors. The sizes where; Ironhead 900cc, 1000cc & Evo 883cc & 1200cc. Lost my running on 2002 sportster

the running and headlight are on different terminals of the main light switch,so either the switch has lost power ,=fuse,plug and socket loose or adrift, or in the switch the rotary plate which bridges the contacts as its rotated is broken or adrift, cant be sure but dosnt the ign switch energise the light, the wiring diagram would show if it is or not

1st -If you don't see how you can hook up 5 wires with 3 caps - you're forgetting the household cord wire.
How to wire it correctly:
This is how mine is wired (same brand perhaps a different mode)l:
1. Connect one side of the household current (big white wire) to the part going into the knob for the temperature control (the rheostat )
Put on one of the twisty plastic caps.
- Now variable current is going into the heating elements.
2. Find the two wires coming out of the heater part.
One carries the juice, the other goes back to complete the circuit.
(Red & black are always IN current - white & blue are always return wires to complete circuits coming OUT of a device)
3. Connect the black motor wire to the red (juice carrying) wire from the heater. (put on a twisty cap) Now you have variable current going INTO the fan.
4. Connect up the rest to the other part of the big white plug to complete all the circuits. (should all be white or blue) Put on a twisty!

You're done. When testing be sure to not let the elements touch the plastic they can melt and stick to it very quickly.

How to bypass the switch if the motor isn't working:
I would NOT recommend doing this for the heater element. You might cause fire.
note: I had to bypass the rheostat for the fan because it was putting out enough current for the motor and the heater.
In that case I only need two twisty caps.

Just hook the motor up directly with the juice going before the rheostat and then the rest of the outgoing circuits to the other return wire of the household electric cord.
Now I vary the temperature but fan will run at a constant rate.

Electrical problems

Ok good luck finding a wiring diagram to do this! Also this i a very bad idea if you manage to bypass the fuse box as your bike will then become a fire risk if you have some sort of short while riding your low amp wires will melt which will then melt the higher amp wires and add a bit of heat and oxygen and you have yourself one burning GPZ 1000
