SOURCE: Hi, I have a UNIDEN Solara DSC Fixed Mount VHF

It sounds like your speaker has failed. I would recommend replacing the speaker. You can take the radio to a marine electronics repair shop for the repair and it should be about $75 - $100. If you have any other problems please email me: kevin@sun-me.net. You can always send it to me and we can repair it at my shop.

Yes if the tip is broken, the antenna will receive, but not transmit properly. The make an antenna that has a 32" stainless steel antenna with a small metal "can". Can mount it anywhere.

Check your batteries. Static can be a sign of a bad or low battery. Swap batteries between the units to see if the problem moves to another radio.
Also, check your antenna and antenna connection.
Best regards.

My uniden ltd 715 receives from my handheld but when I transmit to handheld it just buzzes.

Just to clarify something, you say that your hand-held VHF can receive a clear transmission from the Uniden, now which of the radios are buzzing, the Uniden or the HH?. If it's the hand-held buzzing try transmitting on the low watt on the Uniden, get some distance from the radio, because if the hand-held are to close to the on the Uniden on high watt you will get a buzzing, the signal are overpowering the receiver of the hand-held, try getting the minimum of 30 feet away. Good luck.

This is almost always caused by a poor ground. I would suggest you run your ground wire (larger the better) back right to the negative terminal of the battery.

Hope this is helpful.
