SOURCE: 2003 polaris 550 trail touring, revearse not working

the high idle could be a dirty needle check your carbs i have that problem with my 550 rmk the reverse light could be your wire harness check your wires with any wire tester idk the specs for it but also clean your connections with some electrical wire component cleaner and use so di-electrical grease if all else fails you may need to bring it to a mechanic for a small fix like that it should run up that high

Why won't 1981 suzuki gs 550 bike won't start after riding it and it's warmed up?

hi
glad i served a long time with wisco and used drag raced for them at one time
sounds to me that your ignition is to far retarded
which means the ignition will spark closer to (TDC)
top dead center
some people advanced the ignition 3 deg to stop the engine from smoking when they did away with 4 star fuel
and gave us unleaded fuel
doing this the performance is great and fast acceleration
but it also make the engine run hotter than normal
unless you have up jetted the carbs
and fitted a non standard exhaust system
the whole idea is get the fuel/air mixture in and out as fast as possible

if you still have points
take your points cover off and adjust your points baseplate
undo the three screws that hold it in place
and just move it about 3 deg towards the rear of the engine
or may be you have a electronic ignition fitted
if so do the same thing
and advance the ignition 3 deg

hope this works for you

ride safe

I recently bought a Suzuki gs 550 and need to reduce idle speed i don't know how to do this at the carb

the idle adjustment screw is located between the number 2 and 3 carburator float bowls bottom rear. I can bairly get my hand on it, but found that a flat blade screwdriver works fine for making ajustments. backing out the screw lowers the idle speed, while running it in increases it. To adjust make sure the motor is warmed up and the choke is off. Make adjustments from the right side (looking at bike from the back), by pushing with the screwdriver on the knurals of the adjustment knob, pushing knurals up backs the screw out, conversly down runs it in. Try for around 1000 rpms for your set speed. You want it to idle smooth and low, but you want it set so it won't die out when you come to a stop when you are riding. If you can not get the idle in this range, then there is some other problem needing attention. However, the idle at times may run a little bit higher than normal when you come to a stop after a hard ride, and should return to normal set speed after it cools down some. You should also make sure that the throttle cable is set at the proper tenion, if too tight, you won't be able to lower the idle. you may have to make adjustments a few times to get it right.

2001 polaris trail boss. it kept running very rough, no power, and died frequently, hard to start. acted like it was flooded. i opened the oil fill to check the oil level and it was so full it came running...

This happened to me with my trailboss also last week.

Take the carb off and clean it completely/ Drain the oil/

Put carb back on / Refill with new oil

your good to go.

(I had to clean the carb 2 times before it didn't to it again.

I was told the choke was stuck open or something.
Hope this helps!
