TV turns on; no other response

I can turn it on/off - but it gives no other response: no menu, no sound, no source, no channels, etc. We've only had it about a week. I can get the power light and the dark blue back-lighting - that's about it.

That clearly sounds like you have an audio/video board failure in the unit. I have seen Sony $2,000.00 dollar TV's do the same. The fact your getting Blue backgroung lighting is indicative that the panel is putting out light and you do have good power board connection. As a final test connect a dvd player to the inputs and see if you get the DVR screen display if negative get the TV replaced since it is only a week old.
I was a Sony Field engineer for a year on all TV models.

I second Ricardo's opinion, but I wouldn't waste time trying any testing on it...bring it back to where you bought it immediately!

SOURCE: fp-t5084 Samsung 50" Plasma does

Hi, Here are some basic steps that will help you fixing the problem. I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LEDlight and your outlet is live.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (nocontinuity). This is due to frequent bending, pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse-sometimes the fuse fail because of the powersurge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case Iwould advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts in the power supply, you may visit thelinkhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r8053361-fuse_keeps_blowing for more info. If no reaction andstill the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply. 4.If you see that the fuse is intact , don't attempt to touch anythingbecause there some fatalcomponentsstored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only. I wouldadvice you to look for aprofessional to troubleshootthe power supply. If you want to repair it yourself make sure that you havenecessary tools and testinstrument. First check bad solder joints(re-solder allcold solder), leakyelectrolytic capacitor(sometimes it has bulged at the top but not all, you betterhave a capacitor checker), open/shorted regulator transistor/IC(mounted in heatsink), open fusible resistor (caused by shorted regulatorTransistor/IC), shorted zenerdiode. You may also replace the power supply board, this is more convenient if you are going to DIY because no soldering required. Obtain the board from your local Samsung service centers.
Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the backpanel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of yourunit will fix it for free or a little charge only. Hope I helped you. Have a nice day! Thanks for using fixya.

A fuse has probably blown inside the TV, I had something similar with a panasonic TV a number of years ago. Open the back up and use a continuity tester across your fuses till you find the right one...................dont forget to unplug it first !!

SOURCE: TV wont come on

Check fuse.
Is this a LCD, Plasma ect...
Do you have sound?
If LCD and you have sound use a flashlight, shine on screen check for faint picture. If you see picture the problem is the backlight has failed, check inverter board for blown fuse.

Samsung le40f71bx picture flickers on and off with hd source

I've had similar for a long time, now the picture only lasts a few minutes or seconds. Have to turn the TV off, wait 5 minutes, turn it back on. That's with Sky HD. Used to be the same with SCART but I don't use that any more, and I get it with the Wii on Component. However HD DVD and Blu Ray players are no problem!

Way out of warranty but really just need some repair expert to tell me what needs fixing. Taking the cover off there are very few components and look easy to replace, and seen some on ebay. A fix from Samsung would be vastly in excess of the value of the TV.

I have a (i think 20 inch) rca truflat tv and i can't find the channel for video and dvd. the manue didn't help and i don't have the guide"

Press menu on your remote. Press "4" for channel and "4" for video input source. In this menu, you can toggle between s-video and regular video (yellow plug) input. The disadvantage is, if you're like me and you've got a DVD player and and VCR (or maybe a video game system) all hooked up to the same TV, you've got to go through the menu and switch the inputs to watch something else. I'm happy with my digital audio cable; I'll deal with yellow-plug video.

If still under guarantee take it back.
If not this sounds like a workshop job. If more than five years old (the TV, not you!) and you can afford it, junk this set and get a new one.

Does say a dvd player give sound when connected to the same input? If you have determined that the source is good and the speakers are turned on in the menu then I would replace the main board.

I have a Toshiba model number 50A62. The menu comes up but no picture displays when trying to view a channel or movie.

Typically when your menu appears but you are not receiving other input signals, it means that your connections and/or inputs aren't correct. Double check all of your connections from the source (cable box, VCR, DVD, etc) to the TV. These connections should always be color coded and run from OUT (source) to IN (TV). Depending on the connection you are making you may have to change the input channel as well. There should be a button on your remote labeled Input or Video Source. Use this button to cycle through your available inputs. Once you've checked your connections run through the inputs and see if you get audio/video on any one of them. If you do, make note of it, so we can further troubleshoot your issue.

Is it a multi-function remote? If it is, make sure you've punched the TV button before using it. Also, make sure none of the buttons on the remote or the TV have accidentally been pushed down and are stuck.

My 22 lcd gives good picture but no sound.I've tried connecting an externel head phone but i don't hear any sound.

you're best bet is, depending on your TV's input/output, is to run your video components directly to TV via HDMI, component, etc., of course component requires additional sound cables, then run your sound out from TV via, best, digital optical, to reciever. You use the TV's menu to choose what you watch and, only have the one audio out. Scan your recievers menu to make sure you've got the right channel to listen to.
