Question about Gateway FPD2275W LCD Monitor

1 Answer

All of a sudden the monitor resolution on my Gateway FPD1975W monitor is off. I am not given the option for 1440 x 900 as recommended. Icons are huge, screen saver is distorted. Was fine before.

After going through some troubleshooting with a tech at Gateway, including reinstalling the video drivers, I was told I'd have to reinstall Windows (Vista). I am not about to do that. I can live with the distortion if I have to. Thanks for your responses, though.

You may be in "Safe Mode". If this is the case, something has occurred that caused the computer to crash, or create an unstable software or hardware condition that the operating system "felt" that normal oprerating conditions were not stable enough to continue "as-is". The operating system puts itself into "Safe Mode" until the problem can be fixed (by you.) Depending on your operating system, reboot your system and look for the start menu, arrow down to normal (the mouse will not work at this point) and hit the "Enter" key. It should work from here.

If you are not in safe mode. Somehow, the monitor or video video card drive has been lost or corrupted. In that case, you simply have to re-install the drivers. I can help you, but I need to know what operating system you are using and some aditional specifics about the hardware you are using.

Caller4 dance has the correct idea most likely the computer needs a video adapter driver installed or even an agp bridge depending on the OS and the motherboard type, it doesn't seem like a safe mode issue because windows restarts on Normal when it reboots in an error situation. let us know how it turns out.

My FPD1975W blinks off and on. the power light never goes out though. The monitor was given to me by a friend so that i could have 2 monitors on my windows 7 delll optiplex 760.

The problem is in the power supply inverter board module, often caused by bad capacitors. If you are handy with a soldering iron an attempt at repairing it can be made or replace the board. The other option is get a professional estimate to see if it can be done at a reasonable amount.

How do I get my gateway fpd1975w tft lcd monitor to not stretch images images across the screen?

You need to make sure your computer's display resolution is set to 1440x900, which is the monitor's native resolution. Other resolutions will result in fuzzy displays or, as you're seeing, distorted images.

Right-click on an open area of the Windows desktop (that is, not over any icons), then select "Properties" from the pop-up menu. Click the "Settings" tab and you'll find a slider adjustment to set the resolution. If 1440x900 is not offered as a resolution, you'll need to upgrade your video card (or add a video card if you have a motherboard with integrated video). Most newer computers support that resolution, but some older systems may only go to 1024x768.

Thanks for using Fixya!

I will assume you have already try this monitor with other PC? You should also set the PC VIDEO output resolution to be at native resolution of this monitor, which is 1440x900 @60Hz.

You do not need the monitor driver to use monitor, but you do need correct driver for your video card, but if still want the driver, here they are: http://support.gateway.com/s/MONITOR/7005574R/7005574Rsl.shtml
Just make sure to set the video resolution of your monitor to be at native resolution 1440 x 900 (native)

My monitor blinks at random intervals at 1024x768 resolution but never at 800x600.

Your Video Card doen't support the 1024X768 that is why your first resolution is blinking and your second resolution is staying on.

Fpd1975w display flashes on and off

what resolution are you setting your screen to? if you are setting it too high or to a resolution/frequency that your monitor doesn't support, it will do this. Try setting it to 800 x 600 w/ 32 bit color and a frequency of 60Hz. If you do this and the monitor still blinks, you may just have a bad DVI cable.
