Wasn't able to find any kind of video, but from what I understand, a similar set up was still being used in '91. It was located right above the oil filter and you should be able to just follow the power line to it. Wish I could be more helpful.

1989 trans am gta, 5.7 ltr tpi, replaced my battery with brand new gell cell, as soon as I connect positive cable ican hear fuel rails prime and continue, started car and after shutting off ignition

If the Oil Sending Unit becomes defective, it often keeps the fuel pump running even after the car's engine is shut off. Replacing the Oil Sending Unit should correct the problem. Believe it or not Pontiac uses the oil sending unit as a back up to power the fuel pump.

Oil gauge looses pressure at times. For 1989 Chevy 1500 pickup. What does this mean?

It could be the sending unit, or the engine could really be loosing oil pressure. Low oil pressure can be a number of things including a weak pump, blockage at the pickup screen, or worn bearings.

I have a 5.8L V8 that loses oil pressure at highway speeds and I am wondering the possible causes?

this can be cause a couple of ways you can have a faulty gauge ,a faulty oil sending unit, oil pump (you can check the pump by connecting a oil pressure test gauge to the engine were the sending unit comes out ,this will tell you if the pump and sending unit is working properly) or the engine is getting worn out, as parts in the engine ware out the tolerances get larger and larger and oil pressure will decrease, most of the time when you first start it on a cold day the oil pressure will be fine and as the engine gets hotter the oil pressure will decrease ,if it has a lot of miles i would say the engine and or pump is gettting tired and installing a pump can be costly,in that case i would suggest using a heavier weight oil if you use 10w30 try 20w50

Where is the oil pressure sending unit located

For 1989 Chevrolet Truck K1500 1/2ton P/U 4WD 4.3L TBI 6cyl the Oil Pressure Switch is located under hood, center, upper engine area, above transmission bellhousing flange, mounted in block.

Good luck (remember rated this post).

1989 Dodge Ram 250 with 318 motor, oil pressure gage has quit working, engine oil is at proper level, someone said that there is some kind of an oil service switch that my need replaced.

you have an oil pressure sending unit located at rear of engine next to distributor. that would cause the oil gauge not to work. also look for a short in electrical wires to oil sending unit. hope this will help!!!

1989 F150 351 oil pressure guage starting dropping to 0 suddenly and engine light comes one. When I rev the engine it goes back to normal but a soon as the rpms drop the needle goes all the way to the left...

Hi:
Usually your oil light doesnt come on unless you have less than 10 lbs of oil pressure. You either have a bad oil pressure sending unit, or your engines oil pump is bad. The only way to verify your engines oil pressure is to buy a direct reading pressure guage and install it on your truck, or have a mechanic check your engine oil pressure. Eitherway, you need to do something soon, because the long term effects of running with low oil pressure will ruin your truck engine.

1989 dodge ram 150 4/w drive pickup has no oil pressure showing on the gage, driving or sitting still.

You need to have a oil pressure guage hooked up to see if you have a bad guage, sending unit to the guage, or if your oil pressure is actually low. Any garage should be able to do this, if you can't get one.

Where is the oil pressure sending unit located?

The pressure sending unit is located on the passenger side rear of the engine just above and slightly to the left of the filter and filter housing.

You need to verify the real oil pressure with a good oil pressure gauge. These are pretty simple gizmoes with a gauge and a hose. Get a hold of one and it screws in where the pressure sender is connected. Most engines need around 45 psi at idle. If it's not OK look for diluted oil, wrong viscosity oil or worse yet worn engine bearing or oil pump.
