Hello there

ok you can go to your bios and check the settings on it while you'll on there. all you have to do is look for this ddc/ci if it's disable then you just enable it. (save it) and reboot. that should take care of your problem if not let me know we can go from there.

ty best regards richard

Best and by far easiest method would be to make use of "System Restore". Simply restore your computer to an earlier time - you want to restore the system to a time as close to the current date as possible but at the same time - restore it to a time/date that to your recollection, would be before this problem on your desktop occurred.

Not sure if you are familiar with system restore so here's the click path to get you there:

...from your desktop and with all programs closed:

1) click on <start>
2) point mouse to < All Programs>, <accessories>, <system tools>
3) when mouse is pointed at <system tools>, navigate mouse down
the list to where you see <system restore> and click on it.

from there, just follow the on-screen instructions and pick your restore point by the calendar that will appear.

Should solve your problem as there is a key stored in the windows registry which may be very difficult to decode otherwise.

How to disable password on Dell Optiplex D170L

Click the "Start" button and then click "Run." Type "Perfmon.msc" (without quotes) and then press "Enter." This opens the Performance window of the System Monitor tool.

Click any of the counters in the right pane that you want to disable.

Click "Delete." This will remove the counter from the System Monitor on your Dell OptiPlex 170L and stop the self-monitoring of that service.

hope this helps

My computer monitor was disabled so now it is black is there any way to reset it or enable the monitor?

Alyssa,
Two ways:
1. Power On the computer and get into the BIOS settings screen. The monitor will turn ON and allow you to view the menus. Select the integrated peripherals menu and set the "use internal vga" ON.

2. If your computer has a add-on video card, unplug the monitor cable from the internal monitor interface and connect it to the add-on video interface.

How do we turn off the POWER SAVING MODE on the monitor screen?

Try going into your Start Menu then going into your control panel...then clicking on your "power options"....then switching the options to 'always on'..if this does not work..(as it seems you may not be seeing this because the monitor is in power saving mode) try fiddling with the setup option on your monitor and find a possible powersaving mode enabled function and disable it. every monitor is different so I couldn't really help you here...if this doesn't yield results try another monitor to see if it's the monitor having the problems or the computers video card...the video card could very well be the culprit...

Here is a little guide for setting up dual monitors with fedora core 6: http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/how-to-setup-dual-monitors-on-linux-fedora-core/

I haven't had to use duals monitors with Linux yet but if this doesn't work let me know and I'll run some tests as I can easily set this up at work (we use the same computers and similar cards).

Powersave problem

If you are using a desktop computer, chances are that you don't want the computer to go to sleep automatically. This is even more the case if you are running Vista in a virtual machine for testing purposes.
Disabling power management is simple and easy. First go to the start menu and click on the Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link

Then click on the Power Options link:

It will disable automatic sleep mode, but will still turn off display.\
You can click on change plan to disable.

If you are using XP than.

Open control pannel-> click on power option -> keep turn off monitor setting to never.
