I had the same problem, check your computer, if you have an amd athlon processor like I do then there is a hardware problem that causes serato to not track one turntable and cause distortion one one deck only. Serato knows about the problem but they currently have no solution. I was about to send my SL1 back to the factory, thinking it was faulty, until I stumbled upon someone with my same problem in the FAQ section of the serato website.

Have you tried to uninstall serato and reinstall
It sounds like the version of serato may have issues with it.
Could be worth a try,
this seems to run well for most people that use it,
so I would be looking at the version you have and the equipment its attached to,
to find out if they are compatible,
Any issues should be reported to Serato so they can rectify,

I know an Agent in New Zealand who is a reliable source of information and may be more help if needed,Please let me know thanks

Cant get a digital signal to run serato

It's not really a digital signal, per say. Its an analog representation of a digital signal. This is good because it's easier troubleshoot. The first thing I would try is check the ground wires. #1cause of Serato Traktor problems. If that's not it, play an analog record to see how it sounds. If you have a missing channel, clean the cartridge with a pencil eraser and inspect the stylus and try again. Restart your mixer and computer (this cycles the ground) and you should be good to go.
If not you may have bad cables that will have to be changed. See the thing about turntables is the audio signal never comes in contact with the turntables electronics. it goes from the needle through the arm and out the cables. The cartridge's signal is magnetic not line level so it needs good shielded cables. Perfect opportunity to upgrade the cheap cables from the manufacturer and you can internally ground the turntable at the same time Eliminate the annoying ground wire. It requires a bit of soldering, all amateur stuff. Youtube is filled with tutorials on changing cables and eliminating the ground wire. oh make sure you have a good shielded USB cable.

If this doesn't work I can think of more.
Give more secifics about your setup.

Serato Problems

First I would have to know what the make and model are. If this is some kind of analog turntable, the waveform will be sign wave. If it is a digital player, if will have a 5 volt TTL digital outputl. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

I use my Sl1200 with Serato and the other day one of the decks was starting slow. I solved the problem by spinning the record first and then placing the stylus down. But I want it to go back to the way...

HI,
After long years of use the electrolytic capacitors in the circuitry will get slightly change its value. If so it can affect the speed of the turntable. Its better to replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the turntable's electronic circuit board. It will not coast a lot for all the capacitors. Will only come around $3 or $4. .

All is fine with this turntable eccept for the fact that when the sound comes through the speakers you can make out the track but the sound is distorted.

Hello
You don't say whether you have only just acquired this deck or if you have been using it for some time and it has only now started to give problems.
There are 2 or 3 possible explanations.
  1. If you have only just got this deck and are using it on a stereo that has a dedicated phono (record player) input it may be that you need to get inside your turntable to turn off the built in pre-amplifier switch. To do so make sure the tone arm is securely fixed into it's holder (a rubber band will hold it in tightly) before turning the deck upside down and unscrewing the bottom.
  2. If you have just got this deck and are trying to play it through a stereo system that does NOT have a dedicated phono (record player) input you may need to get inside the deck to turn the phono pre-amplifier switch on.
  3. And if the deck has been used for some time this is the most likely - the record stylus (needle) probably needs replacing. Personally, although it is a bit more expensive, I prefer to replace the whole cartridge rather than just the stylus as they do need changing from time to time anyway. Always replace the stylus at least at the frequency recommended by the manufacturer. Regularly clean the stylus with very gentle strokes from the back towards the front using a small soft brush.

I suddenly heard alot of distortion when playing the Pioneer PL-990 turntable. Wonder if replacing the needle may take care of the problem.

Depends on the circumstances. Is it only when you play it loud? Air- or room-borne vibrations will feed back through the TT to the speakers. Keep the volume down to avoid it.

If you call the stylus a 'needle', replacing it maybe beyond your capabilities. There are lots of reasons for TT sound to be less than perfect and arbitrarily replacing things can do more harm or introduce new problems. Take it to someone experienced and equipped to evaluate the issue.

Tonearm balance, antiskating, dirty stylus, feedback.

Tonearm not emitting signal into Serato

there is a switch that cuts off the signal when the tone arm docks.check the wiring is not broken inside and that the switch is ok.typically, red green white black red and white are plus and left ground is green and right ground is black.the collar that screws on to the head unit has 4 pins.make sure the contacts are clean.measure the wires one at a time from the tone arm to the rca plugs on the back.the green and black go to the outside collars, and the red and white go to the center pin of the rca plugs

Distorted sound, Low signal, unable to use deck with serato.

Hi there,
I just want to clarify the way you have your gear set up.,
Normally this is enough to annoy anyone.

Having set all the equipment up,this is what I would do.....

Try without Serato

Firstly I would set the records & platters and then the counterweights,
Then I would do an audible check.Headphones,Monitors and then front of house system
If this passes I will then set the room levels for comfort and then the eq band gets a tune up for the room,

If this set up procedure works then connect Serato,
If problems persists then Uninstall Serato and Reinstall.

Try Again if all else fails ......

www.serato.com they have a contact us,report the problem.

Hope this helps ,If you need more help please let me know,Misterdj

Hey how come i cant use my loop features on my cdj800 with my serato?

It's the limitations of Serato. Because it's sampling in real-time, the signal cannot be manipulated by the CDJ800. Sorry, there is no way around this. Talk to Serato about this.
