Question about Whirlpool duet Washing Machines

Duet Bleach dispenser not working - dispenser motor working properly

The bleach dispenser on my washer stopped emptying recently and many years of regular use. Undiluted bleach is left in the dispenser after washing. I opened the top of the washer, ran the diagnostic cycle and the dispenser motor cycles though all 4 positions as it should. Water coming in to the top of the dispenser is directed to the holes above the bleach dispenser, again as it should be. This one's got me stumped

It sounds like the solenoid output of the bleach dispenser may not be reacting to the step motor that cycles it...Also check for a clog of dried out stuff just below the dispenser screen.

The solenoid is moving properly and cycles from 1-4 in diagnostic mode C02. When I check the water distribution by moving the valve manually it properly outputs water to each of the 4 chambers in the dispenser.

If there is still concentrate in the resevoirs, either there is something clogged below them or the liquid is too thick to be mixed in each of the chambers. Try diluting it a bit and see what happens!

SOURCE: Water Softner Dispense wont empty - Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak 4 HE3t

I'm sure you heard a small motor running from time to time during a cycle. That moves an "arm" which sends water to the different chambers during a cycle. Fabric softener is dispensed when water goes to that chamber and dilutes the fabric softener. That chamber then empties by a siphoning action.
If you want to narrow down the problem a little to help trouble shoot -- put some wet rags in and run the Rinse and Spin cycle with some fabric softener. If the softener is not dispensed, then you know that the water isn't being sent to that chamber properly.
If you are intrepid enough to take the top off your washer, do that and see if the arm appears to be moving during a normal cycle. Maybe the arm got dislodged or broken during the move.
If water isn't being diverted properly, I think this calls for a real repair person.

I have the same model # and same problem!!!
Worked fine for few months and then it started.
Sears technicians came twice but couldn't fix the problem. Now they have ordered a new dispenser door. Sears said they changed the design. Will see if the new door will work. Hope that helps.

I have owned our washer for seven years Why doesn't the bleach dispenser empty?

is it a front loader or top loader? what is the model number? normally you have 3 or more water inlet valves 1 for cold water, 1 for hot water and one for either fabric softener and or bleach, id say (without any specific info) that it is simply a jammed/faulty water inlet valve, or if its a front loader you often get this problem if the water pressure isn't high enough to create the siphon in the dispenser, i dont know why they set up the softener dispenser on front loaders as a siphon when the pre and main wash just wash through normally

How do I get the bleach dispenser to drain?

Hello Denise C - There are several things that could cause the bleach to not dispense into the washer. Are you sure the liquid in the dispenser after the wash is bleach? If it is pure bleach, the solenoid that lets the water into the dispenser is not working. This solenoid is located on the back of the dispenser. It only gets voltage during the dispense time and fills the bleach dispenser with water. The bleach dispenser fills while the washer is filling for the rinse cycle.

When the washer begins to fill for the rinse cycle, the bleach solenoid is energized and water flows into the bleach dispenser cup. When the cup is full the water siphons out and bleach and water flow into the tub.

If the liquid in the bleach dispenser is pure bleach you may need a technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The voltage will have to be tested to the bleach solenoid and a volt meter is required.

If the liquid in the bleach dispenser is water you probably need to clean the dispenser cup. Scum will build up in the siphon tube and stop the liquid from going into the washer tub. The incoming water will dilute the bleach and overflow the dispenser cup and run into the tub.

Remove the insert from the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Clean the bottom of the insert and the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Reinstall the insert and put the drawer back inside the washer.

To test the siphon action slowly pour water into the bleach compartment. When the water level goes above the maximum line stop pouring. The water should all drain out. You may also test the fabric softener compartment the same way.

I do hope this information proves to be helpful.

Whirlpool bleach dispenser not dispensing properly

It sounds like the bleach dispenser is clogged or has a crack in it. What we do, is when we bleach our clothes and I know that this is extra work, but we wait until the washing machine is full of water, then add the bleach directly to the wash.

Bleach not always being emptied, bleach marks on clothes, bleach sometimes runs right out when you fill it.

The dispenser works on a siphon principal. If you over fill the cup it will start the siphon and empty before it should. If that's happening you're using way too much. You only need about a tablespoon of soap, softner and bleach for a full load.

Liquid Bleach dispenser doesn't work correctly

This may not be relevant, but by design, bleach does NOT dispense in the Buly/Bedding, Kids Wear, and Silk/Ultra Delicate cycles. If you try to use it, it remains in the dispenser.

As for the yucky smell, leave the door open when not in use.

Bleach drains from compartment as soon as it is filled

Could you be putting too much bleach in? These things are usually designed to be self siphoning once the dispenser is full enough. The idea is that you half-fill it with bleach. At the right point in the cycle, the machine starts adding water, filling the dispenser up to the point where it siphons out until empty. If you overfill at the outset, the thing will empty straight away. If you're sure that isn't the cause, then take the dispenser out and check that the dam that keeps the bleach in place to start with isn't damaged (you may need to take a cover off the back of the dispenser first to see this). A.
