Question about Vivitar ViviCam 3826 Digital Camera

Uploading pictures from camera to computer

Howdy. I have windows me and a vivitar 3826. The list of cameras that came up when we tried to upload pictures to computer does not even list the vivitar. This, coupled with a vital windows install file being locked, makes for creative hair-pulling. Any assistance, on either front, would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Karen Hicks

    Hi dll932, (I feel like I'm in THX1138)

Are you suggesting that using a Windows 98 driver would help with a Windows ME problem, even though vivitar writes the driver is ONLY for 98? There is NO driver listed for 98.

As an aside, there's a problem with what I think is the wsock32.dll (not sure of name). File cannot be copied over with working one. I don't have the funds to upgrade XP, nor do I wish to be without my machine while it is being rebuilt.

Sigh. My children gave us this camera several years ago before I became very ill and was not able to concentrate on the camera.

I came across this site while trying to find a solution. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my note.

I would check Vivitar's website for a camera driver file you can download that would enable you to use it. Not sure what you mean by install file being locked. In general, I would upgrade to Windows XP (or Vista if your machine will support it, once they've gotten more bugs out). Windows ME is basically Windows 98 with some multimedia extensions, and not one of Microsoft's better efforts-it's also old, so not many updates will be forthcoming.

Try System File Checker with your WinME original install disc. Put it in the drive and click the RUN command you see after clicking the start button. On the blank line, type SFC /scannow (it may be SFC/ scannow...note position of the space. This might restore your damaged file.

Exactly what did you find at Vivitar's website? How about giving their customer support phone number a call?

I cant upload my photos to my desktop

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Uploading pictures

Try plugging the camera into your usb port of the computer and then open up "My Computer" and you should see the camera listed in there and you can just double click on it and view the pictures and save where you want.

Uploaded pics to pc and now it wont turn on

First check batteries, because on Digital Cameras they go out pretty fast. So if you know for a fact it's not batteries, then also dust in a camera can jam it and cause it not to work simply open up and blow in it softly and add new batteries, if don't at first work try again.
