Ran a toshiba satelitte laptop m45-s3113 dignostic self test, got a ?blue or green screen, said something about must dump dns stash? before that, I had Kaspersky Internet security installed. it crashed, said "databases corrupt" in Kaspersky's warnings. and lost my modem at the same time. Advice form Kasp "delete and reinstall Kasp." Tried an external modem, would not recognize it. So tried a Tosh. dignostic and got the above. I feel paralized now!

Re: get "must dump dns stash"
I suggest to forget about diagnoses and just reinstall the operation system again from scratch ..using a boot-able disk or flash usb ..and clean the hard drive completely .. At least the C drive ...just format it during installing ..This will make it work if it is nothing physically wrong . The modem is probably just disabled or missing drivers..or blocked..I see no reason to be affected ..reinstalling a clean os ..will fix it too .. I suggest to use just the programs you really need ..and get read of all tools from Toshiba ..and use a more reliable security ..like Microsoft essentials one ..Its free and not invasive ..and Im really satisfied so far with it .. If you run windows xp ..it will ask you to update a few things before let you install it ..Just click on the suggestion and download those fixes..

what error message are you receiving on the blue screen? if it resets to fast start typing f8 at boot and in the advanced menu, toggle down to do not restart on system failure. write down the hex code (0x00XXXXX) and report back. What version of windows are you running? have you tried to press f2 or f1 or whatever key it is to enter setup on your laptop @ boot and disable network boot?
Hi, Can you tell us please, what - recently - happen to the lap? have it been shocked, dropped down ,,, ?
To test, u can plug external monitor in the VGA-port, turn ON the laptop, after a minute, toggle the display once, or twice, or 3 times to change the display path to the external monitor. Tell us your results Good Luck
Check your battery and ac adapter before going too far into the technical side of the laptop. Toshiba use what is known as Power On Self Test. (Most do actually), it runs a programme before the BIOS starts and checks the periferals, keyboard, screen DVD etc. The lights should at least flash at that point. You may have faulty memory or a system error. Please let me know what you find. Hope this helps.
To sure the battery problem or bad. try to change another battery for testing only befor you replace at all.. I thing this over charging of the battery. then the battery became damage or bad.. to sure change other battery..
If warranty - call it in. Otherwise it sounds like a classic case of bad ram. Find a friend with similar ram in his/her laptop and do a test swap to see if symptoms repeat. Then replace the ram. Far more common in HP's then Toshiba, but it happens for no reason. Basically it's a page in or out error with the ram causing windows to "freak out".
You can get a good selection of ram from Tigerdirect.com or newegg.com.
If it is still under warranty, you'd save yourself a lot of time and money if you just send it in for repair. If it isn't, the way to test if the RAM is bad is by trying to use the stick in another laptop or by trying to replace the RAM you currently have with RAM that you know is working (has worked on another computer). If the problem is with the motherboard or CPU, for most people it's better to just sell the laptop AS-IS with a good description on eBay and buy a new laptop.
