Question about Brother MFC 420CN All-In-One InkJet Printer
I recently bought a acer x1200 with vista os. I have tried a dozen or so times to install my brother mfc-240c printer and each time the installation freezes at the point where it says it is writing to the registry. The first couple of attempts I made the mistake of attampting to install the software with the printer plugged in and turned on. For the next ten or so attempted installations I followed the brother printer installation direcdtions.
I spent four hours on the telephone with brother tech people to no avail. they of course said i should call acer. acer doesn't seem to offere telephone support so i emailed them and have yet to hear back.
Check brother's web site and see if you can locate the "uninstaller".
This should wipe the old install attempts. Unplug the unit. Down-load the latest Vista driver from the brother website. Follow the install instructions for your driver, they should be printed in the browser.
Plug the unit in when instructed to do so.
I hope that helps. The uninstaller can work wonders sometimes, but it doesn't always help.
