Replacement transformer for Kenmore 665.4433452

Request help with locating a functional transformer for a Kenmore microwave oven, model 655.4433452, that is currently no longer available through the manufacture. The PartDirect website defines the transformer as no longer available. At this point, I am looking for a transformer that will work as opposed to a direct replacement. Technical information on the transformer would also help in locating a suitable replacement. Any help you can render would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is likely on the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This often can affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inopoerable or stuck on.

I would suspect the high-voltage transformer in this case, but the capacitor may be failing.

The high voltage section uses and generates voltages that can be instantly lethal.

So I don't recommend that anyone work in this area unless he has either a lot of experience or at the minimum, a good understanding of the safety issues and procedures involved.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Also, there should also be a very helpful "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel. It's very helpful when troubleshooting.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

Here are some links you or a friend can use for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams for the similar model M438 here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

The model M437 is not listed, but the M438 is, and it should be similar enough to guide you. Just don't count on the part numbers being the same.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

1.Check power outlet for working.
2.If it is than you have broken fuse inside the m/w.
3. To change the fuse you have to disconnect the power to m/w, take the upper grill off, take the screw on top of control panel, lift the control panel up and removed. The 20 Am fuse located behind this panel.

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore Elite Microwave F-9 Error

My guess is that it is the main transformer that has developed a fault. If the insulation has broken down - it will arc there instead of the magnatron. Or it could be the magnatron itself. Both are prime suspects - and expensive to replace.

Unless you are particularly attatched to this - I would buy a new unit - and sell the turntable plate to recoup your losses.

Why would my kenmore micro wave model 721.66463500 just go dead, no power

There may be a weakened connection around the main power supply 'Transformer'. Sometimes the connections can overheat but if they are removed and replaced it may again make contact. I've had a similar problem and found parts from similar brands to replace the connecting/wiring parts. I soon realized that I could have removed the extra pieces around the wires without causing any electrical problems. That is the minor repair. The major repair would be to replace one of the main features (large or small) which assist the transformer in power functions. Take your time examining the tiniest parts and pieces.

Dacor microwave oven DMO24S panel buttons LEDs are non functioning. How do you replace panel.

I'm a little confused. What part you need depends on whether you have a display issue or an issue of some pads on the keypad are not responding.

Please post a new help request with your full model (thanks for that) and more detailed symptoms.

Kenmore pizza microwave beeps constanly

This is not a solution, it is a clarification request, but it looks like FixYa took away that helpful option, too.

I would suggest you post a whole new help request and be sure to tell us:

1. The FULL model number from the tag in or on the microwave. A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

2. Let us know when it beeps. Is it only after cooking? While it's setting idle?

3. Next, let us know if the display has anything in it besides the normal clock time.

A good first step might be a hard reset, accomplished by unplugging the oven for a minute or two, plugging it back in, then resetting the clock.

Does not heat anymore, power is going to unit, the clock, and fan work, light still works but it will not heat and makes a low growling sound when we try to run it. Help!

What you are describing is a problem with the magnetron and it has become faulty, that is the main part that heats the food, the growling sound indicates it is loading down the power transformer that energizes the magnetron. The repair cost will not justify the expense "costly" replacement of the microwave oven "cheaper" in the long run.

I can use all the functions of my Kenmore elite microwave oven with convection. When I hit the start button it will not turn on and heat. Can you help ?

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARRAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Why would my microwave be buzzing, I just got it for Christmas and I can't leave it plugged in because it constantly buzzes?

There are loose laminations in the transformer causing the noise. A replacement transformer will stop the noise or indeed re-crimping the cover on the transformer will possibly clear the noise.

Kenmore Micro/Oven fuse keeps blowing

Disconnect the connector to the primary winding of the high voltage transformer. Put a new fuse . If the fuse is not blowing the problem may be in the secondary side of the high voltage transformer. Chek the highvoltage diode, capacitor, magnetron respectively. you can also check the primary winding of the low voltage transformer.

Where can I get a HV transformer for Microwave?

I went on-line and found a site that gave answers to similar problems. I found that no power to the the control board usually meant a transformer issue. I checked the leads on the transformer (with a meeter) and found that it was shot. Now I need a replacement transformer, at a reasonable price, or else I will purchase a new Microwave.
