If you havent had your xbox modded in anyway send it off to microsoft and they will fix it for free, but if you want to do it yourself google RROD fix there are heaps of guides and its pretty easy once you get all the bits you need which you will find on ebay.
The Xbox 360 has serious cooling problems; compressed air usually does wonders for the Xbox.
You'll "brick" your Xbox tampering with the fan and heat sink; soft mods are always a bad idea if you don't have any recourse for fixing the system.
Hard Mods/Mod Chips are the best way to go because you have dual boot capabilities; you can boot to the original Xbox OS or the Mod Chip firmware.

your warranty; you might start by uses an Ohm Meter to check the heat sink and fan connections.
Also make sure there is not a gap between the heat sink and the processor; this space should be filled with the thermal compound.
Furthermore, the fan might be damaged and not reporting the fan speed through the variable resistance wire; only way to determine this is by powering the fan with +5v / -5v and checking the variable resistance wire with an Ohm meter.
there's a possible hard drive issue on this.
try the ff:
-turn off your xbox
-remove your hdd from the xbox
-turn on the xbox while the hdd is removed
-if you're still getting the sme error code, your xbox needs to be repaired/replaced

i know what you mean..i have had three RRODs so far and no one ever physically examined my console..all they asked on the phone was: have u made any modifications?no have u plugged the power directly in the socket and not a power strip?directly,no power strip what is the light status on the power brick?green what is the light status on the console?the RROD! have u restarted and reinserted the cables blah blah?yes no use be confident and answer!!i got mine within a 4-5 days,a delivery guy gave me a new one and took the old one(he probably had no clue what an xbox was!!,and this was all three times) i am from India and actually was quite surprised that i got a new one three times! and the surprise was a sorry note from microsoft and 30 days of xbox live gold!! call them asap and get urs pronto..GOW2 is coming!! regards!any help let me know..
