Floppy drives are very cheap and easy to replace, another option, you might consider if you have a USB slot is to purchase an external floppy drive.

External's cost a little bit more but they are portable and you don't have to open the computer to install them.

What model Lenovo ??...

Because PC makers no longer include floppy drives in computers, many new PC users have never used one.
Nevertheless, there are many occasions when a floppy drive can be the most convenient form of file storage and transfer for small files.
On most Lenovo ThinkCentre PCs, a floppy drive is an add-on option and most packages do not include the device unless you specifically request it.
If you purchased a ThinkCentre PC without a floppy drive, you can add one to the system yourself and save some money vs. taking the system to a shop.

Shut down the ThinkCentre computer.
Disconnect the AC power cord and other peripherals.
Move the computer to a sturdy work surface.
WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.

Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source.
Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer.
While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards

Use your fingers to push inward on the two buttons on either side of the computer.
Lift upward on the front edge of the cover to open it.
Open the cover until it stands at a 90-degree angle to the computer chassis.

Disconnect the ribbon cable from the optical drive.
Lift up on the rear edge of the drive bay tray until you can see the rear of the CD/DVD drive.
Orient the new floppy drive so that the diskette slot faces down.
Connect the floppy drive cable to the motherboard.
Slide the floppy drive part way into the floppy drive slot.
While holding the floppy drive, connect the other end of the cable to the diskette drive.
Lock the ZIF connector on the cable, then slide the drive all the way into the slot.
Slide the blue drive lock downward to secure the floppy drive in the slot tray.
Close the cover and reconnect all cables.
Power on the computer.
The ThinkCentre BIOS detects the new floppy drive automatically and configures it as the "A:\" drive on your computer.

My dell dimension 9200 is booting and then giving me a Floppy Diskette Seek Failure message. What is causing this to appear and not boot windows 7?

Hi. You computer seems to be booting up using the floppy disk and your floppy disk drive might not be connected properly, not working or not even there. Press F2 to run the setup utility and disable the floppy seek in the bios. It will most likely be in the "Advanced CMOS setup" area, or the 2nd screen depending on your bios. look for "Seek floppy drive at boot?" or, "Disable floppy seek at boot?" or something like that. When you find it, make sure it's not enabled for the seek. Save the change on exiting. :-)

Device manager says floppy is working but on boot it shows problem recognizing drive and the floppy drive will not run a diskette or format one

the floppy drive in the device manager refers to the controller on the board, NOT the drive itself. if the controller on the board can SEE the drive, Windows says its fine. Id suggest a new drive. theyre only about 20 bucks, and easy to install. I'd order a new floppy cable as well (just to be sure). Those are usually only an extra dollar if you buy it online in one shipment.

Any brand name floppy drive will work just fine. Does not have to be the exact same model or model number.

You can pick these up at either any computer distributor online (www.newegg.com , www.tigerdirect.com , other ones out there) or almost at any place that sells computer related devices (walmart, best buy, frys, local small computer shop). The plugs/pins are all the same in the back of the floppy, so it is completely interchangeable.

sounds like your floppy drive is failing, you could get it replaced or simply turn it off via the BIOS.
to turn it off simply hit the F2 key. On the first screen usually it will list your Hard Drives, CD ROMs', and the Floppy. scroll down to the floppy and hit enter ot the corresponding key form the bios's legend at the bottom or right hand side of the screen untill you see disable.
Next you can navigate to Save & exit or hit F10 to do the same. G/L.

Dell GX260

You need to change the boot order in the bios of the computer. It is also called the setup. When you turn the computer on, in the top right hand corner of your screen you will see F2-Setup F12-boot menu. Select F2 and when you get into the bios go through the options until you find "boot order" or just "boot". That will show what devices your computer will use, and in what order, to boot up. If the floppy is below the main hard drive then it won't work unless the hard drive is defective. Move the floppy to the top of the list, exit saving changes, and it will now check the floppy first.
