Smoking and sparks from brush contacts in electic engine...

Electric Model UT43103 started smoking out of electric engine vents. Turned it off and found black powder and burnt plastic smell around vents. Opened casing and removed electric motor cover to find some plastic ties that hold wiring brittle and broke off although insulation remains on the wires. Ran electric engine but found severe sparking in brushes, which appear normal. While this unit apparently overheated with normal heavy use, cannot figure out what needs correction. Cost of replacement motor about $85+, orginal cost of saw a few months ago at Home Depot $49, I don't think they will help me.[Used proper heavy duty extension cord, after burning up 3 other electric{other brands} saws using small guage extension cords!]

SOURCE: Briggs & Stratton Burnt Brushes

I did find out that the inner slip ring was worn down. Still unknown why and the repair tech we took it to twice just replaced the brushes and never looked at the slip rings.

My solution, which has worked for over two months now (knock on wood) is as follows:

The slip ring on this unit can only be replaced by replacing the whole rotor assembly. I looked at the width of the brushes and the width of slip rings. The slip rings are twice as big as a brush. The solution was to move the brushes outward by one brush length. In order to do that, I had to turn the brush assembly around because of the extra plastic on the unit and space it out one brush length. Note: Still hook the wires as if the brush assembly was not turned around.

I used an old brush assembly and cut the two areas where the screws go through to make my spacers and it works perfectly.

SOURCE: carbon brush sparking and cause no power for electric motor

You have either one of 2 problems. Either you have a brush that is hung up and burnt or the armature is bad. If you are comfortable in removing the brushes first unplug the tool and remove the brush caps. Pull brushes out and look at the spring making sure not collapsed and then the end of brush that rides on armature for a burning look. Then I would look into brush tube and try and turn by hand the roller to look at the segments of armature best you can. If this needs anything other than brushes I would take it to a repair shop. Good luck

SOURCE: prong on dryer plug gets hot and burns plastic on plug

You are right. There is not a good connection somewhere. When you say your replaced the cord, did you also replace the plug? Make sure all fittings are tight. Where it is melting, this is where the problem probably is. You can also check the receptacle and see that the wires to it are tight as well. There is a build up of heat or resistance in that area tha tis causing your problem. let me know how you do. Good luck.

Too much smoke from my nissan b 14

first: fill up motor-oil! The engine is smoking If you pay attention to the colour of the exhaust smoke, you can make a preliminary diagnosis as to what's wrong with the car:
  • The engine smoke has a distinctive blue colour.
Probable reasons: wear of the cylinder-piston group, valves, valve guides, valve stem seals, sticking (carbonization) of piston rings, wear of bearings of turbine supports or seals in turbine engines, absence of spark in one of the cylinders (malfunction of the electric circuit).
  • The engine smoke is white.
Probable reasons: moisture in the engine and exhaust system, malfunction of the cooling system. Insignificant smoking by cold start (especially by cold weather) is considered normal. If the engine continues to smoke even after being warmed up to the operating temperature, it is necessary to take the car to a service station.
  • The engine smoke is black.
Probable reasons: malfunction of the fuel system, it is necessary to take the car to a service station for a diagnostics.

2003 yamaha 1100 has been sitting for 2 years what should i do ?

Take out the plugs and spray a good long shot of WD-40 into the cylinders, replace the plugs, but leave then disconnected from the plug wires. Gently kick start or electric start the engine. If it will ot budge, the engine is seased and will require dissasembly and serious rebuild. If it does move and frees up, drain the old gas, replace it with fresh gas and replace the spark plug wires and attempt to start it. If it starts, don't' be alarmed by it smoking at first, that is the WD-40 burning off. If all is well, the smoking should subside and the idle should settle down. If the smoking worsens, turn it off and take it to the shop. I can not be held responsible for any damage that occurs to this engine, try this at your own risk. Make sure you are in a well ventilated area too. Good luck, be careful.

Poping, smoking electric Lasko 5540 heater

It depends on where the smoke is coming from. If it's from the heating elements, it's normal as dust and residue burn off. If it is coming from the control section, it's bad and the heater should not be used.
