42" LCD HD TV keeps blowing fuses.

LCD HD TV blows a fuse every time we turn it on. We opened up the back and replaced the fuse.
Original fuse was T5.0A H/250V (ceramic fuse) We replaced it with non-ceramic fuses from Radio Shack. Does this matter? What else could be causing this problem?

A ceramic fuse stands up to heat better than a non-ceramic fuse. I'm no pro, but it sounds like your power inverter board maybe bad. There are replacements out there. Good luck

Disconnect the cable from the TV and see if that keeps the picture on longer. I had the same problem it was caused by my ground having a steady 30 Volts coming from a loose wire in my box.

Tv does not turn on , there was a power outage and since then it wont turn on. there is power to the outlet

If the TV is completely DEAD. Check the main fuse in the power supply. Replace the fuse with exact amperage. Make sure you unplug the TV before taking the cover off. If the power supply keeps blowing the fuse, replace the power supply. Be very careful high voltage can kill!

Best of luck

If a fuse blows like that there is a major problem, inside. I suspect that what your are seeing is the inrush thermistor, and they exhibit this under great load. I would explect that this fault maybe in the actual PSU. Due to the lack of service manual support, i would get a quote for repair from an authorised service center.

Heard a pop then screen went blank. Now TV wont turn on.

Sounds like your fuse.

If not the fuse in your plug, then the internal fuse in the TV. to get too this you need to open the TV by taking off the back plastic panel and look at the fuse.

the fuse is the glass tube on the board, will no doubt be near where the power cord connects to the TV. and are easy to replace with another fuse. you will know soon as you open it if its blown as the little glass tube will be blackened or the little wire inside the tube will be missing or severed.

Fuses in TVs are actually designed to blow over time with ware (usually to last a bit longer then the warranty time frame) so after the cover has ended the TV can go in for repair work at extra cost. Its a little known fact.

I think that is the wrong fuse but still it would pop if you have a line problem on the circuit that fuse is piping for a reason not the value but there are more issues on the circuit then what you repaired I would start digging and see if there are more popped caps! not in the power supply but else where like the hd push board or the decoder in better terms.

Thanks hope this helps if you cannot get it done take it in for a estimate as estimate will tell you the issue fixed or not and you can take that advice from that tech and repair your TV!!

Please do click the accept button if you like my advise.

May i suggest a service manual?

TV won't turn on

take the back off the tv and inspect the glass fuse off the ac power cord, it will probably be black and open, this is a common problem, it blows because the degaussing circuit works too slow, the original fuse is an 6.3 amp fuse, you need to replace it with a 6.3 amp slow blow or a 7 or 8 amp fuse to keep it from blowing, if you put an original 6.3 amp fast blow fuse in it, it will work for a while, but will blow again someday.
