How do I use the password protection?

Your questions isn't too specific but I hope this helps

There are several ways to incorporate password protection. You can set the computer to require a boot up password in the computer BIOS. You have to enter the computer BIOS as soon as you turn it on; with a Dell press [F2], with HP press [Esc] and select system configuration. In the BIOS you can set the BIOS Administrator password - controls the ability to change BIOS settings, the computer boot password - when enabled it requires the user to enter the bootup password before the computer will boot, and set the hard drive access password - controls the users ability to access a hard drive.

The next level of password protection is at the operating system level - account access levels, privilege levels, and passwords. Dependent of operating system you can also set hard drive encryption

Versa VXi PC Notebook: Password bios protect, how to reset bios password ...

I know some methods to reset bios password.
1. The best and easiest method: Close OS and shut down the electricity power of computer. Open your computer box, take out the cmos battery from the mainboard. Then the bios password will be reset to blank. Put it back after a few minutes.
2. Follow some hard tutorials, it is difficult to do. It is better that you are a expert. For example this tutorial: Bypass BIOS Password or Crack CMOS Password?
3. Use the bios password recovery tool , but that is not free!

So I would suggest you the 1st method. Hope it helps.

Unable to remove write protection. I did not write protect the hard drive.Reformatting is not an option.

First of all ensure that you have not changed any BIOS option like 'write protect'. You can enter bios settings by keep on pressing 'DEL' or F2 key (depends on your bios) while booting. After entering select default settings. Save, Exit and Restart. If your problem still persists, then check for jumper settings (usually provide in SCSI disks) are set to read and write.

Can you get into it at all. If you can't, try to reset to the factory presets. You can do this with:
  • A restore CD
  • A XP/Vista disk and choose to re-format and re-install it again (probably your best bet)
  • *If you can get in as a guest* Re-install from hidden Restore drive. (Usually by pressing ALT - F10) You

Updated bios problem on a780gm-a

I think you had a bad flash!

So re-download a new bios file from there web site and try again, with these instructions....

Updating the BIOS
You can download and install updated BIOS for this motherboard from the
manufacturer’s Web site. New BIOS provides support for new peripherals, improvements
in performance, or fixes for known bugs. Install new BIOS as follows:

1 If your motherboard has a BIOS protection jumper, change the setting to
allow BIOS flashing.

2 If your motherboard has an item called Firmware Write Protect in Advanced
BIOS features, disable it. (Firmware Write Protect prevents
BIOS from being overwritten.)

3 Create a bootable system disk. (Refer to Windows online help for
information on creating a bootable system disk.)

4 Download the Flash Utility and new BIOS file from the manufacturer’s
Web site. Copy these files to the system diskette you created in Step 3.

5 Turn off your computer and insert the system diskette in your computer’s
diskette drive. (You might need to run the Setup Utility and change the
boot priority items on the Advanced BIOS Features Setup page, to
force your computer to boot from the floppy diskette drive first.)

6 At the A:\ prompt, type the Flash Utility program name and the file name
of the new bios and then press <Enter>. Example: AMINF340.EXE
040706.ROM

7 When the installation is complete, remove the floppy diskette from the
diskette drive and restart your computer. If your motherboard has a
Flash BIOS jumper, reset the jumper to protect the newly installed BIOS
from being overwritten. The computer will restart automatically.

Hope This helps

Have a nice day!

Good luck with the hard drive...haven't found anything that actually works. There are several places that can unlock it (so they say) for a fee, and you gotta ship it to them.

Bios unknow flash type doesn't find A drive or hdd

hi...!!!

If you have a PM-599LMR (M599LMR) motherboard or PG-5517A PreSystem you may not be able to update your BIOS. A batch of BIOS chips used on these motherboards was accidentally WRITE-PROTECTED when it was originally programmed. Any attempts to update the BIOS on one of these write-protected BIOS chips will cause the system to become unusable. The only way to restore your computer is with the original BIOS and the BIOS recovery procedure above.

The default setting for the bios are: set jumper on pins 1 & 2. To clear them switch it to 2 & 3 for 20-30 seconds and then return to default settings. Hope this is what you needed. Good Luck !

Disabling Bios Writing Protection

Sometimes the BIOS calls this protection some sort of "virus protection" as past viruses, like the CIH virus would tend to overwrite motherboard BIOS' with jargon, bricking the motherboard. Try disabling any onboard "virus" protection and try flashing your BIOS again.
