Try installing the latest audio and LAN drivers. You can download the audio, LAN and device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windowsdrivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download thedrivers: - http://welcome.hp.com/country/au/en/cs/support.html
Go to device manager and check if the wireless lan driver is installed. If not, install the driver first and make sure you install the required software as well. (usually HP Wireless Assistant). You can download the drivers from here: www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.htm.
Choose your laptop model and operating system then download the necessary drivers needed for your lan to work.
Hope this helps.

Well the cpu can be removed, but the only way to improve it would be to buy a faster cpu that is compatible with you laptop hardware and the motherboard in the laptop. The easiest and cheapest way to make it faster is to upgrade the ram. you can upgrade the 512 ddr2 to 2gb ddr2 i believe. The wireless issue is either a driver issue or a faulty wireless card. The wireless cards are fairly cheap. The driver can be found here at the link below and you can see if it fixes it. hope this helps let me know if you need anymore help
ps. im am not sure which wireless card you have installed on you machine but you can try all the drivers and it will not install if is not the right one. if it is the right one it will install and hopefully fix this silly issue.

go into the device manager and uninstall the wireless adapter. Then click scan for hardware changes and let windows resinstall it. It sounds like a corrupt driver. Before doing so make sure you didnt hit the wireless button that shuts off the connection on the computer. :)

What operating system are you using and what make and model of router are you using. for now, try to uninstall your wireless LAN driver and re-install it again. make sure the wireless feature switch in front of the laptop is turned on and a Blue light, a wireless local area network (LAN) device is turned on. If it is Amber: All wireless devices are turned off.
