I have a dell c540 laptop and i modify 3pin charger to 2 pin charger. So everything is normal, laptop itself works with AC and even with battery but it won't charge batteries. I connect + and - pins correctly but i left the ''third'' pin empty, i have heared that this ''third'' pin is charger control pin. Or is this pin for charging too or ..? I have also heard that i must connect this pin with + or- pin, ( i dont know which one) to charge the battery. Can anybody solve my problem?

Windows Vista is not supported on Dell Latitude C540/C640. There are no drivers for the hardware of this model. Many older computers have that problem. You can try Microsoft to see if they even exist: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx You might have to fall back to XP. You might want to try another AC adapter. If it works, then call up Dell and have replacement on the AC adapter. Otherwise, call up Dell and have them check your motherboard. If the warranty is still active, then can still definitely replace that.
