SOURCE: I have a John deere 317 tractor that does not start.

We will be testing for voltage to the points, coil, engine to tractor wiring harness, ignition switch

Tools needed:
volt meter to read 12 volts, or test light

1) with the points open: is there voltage at the connection wire at the points
If yes; adjust points to .020" and try to crank engine and check for spark
*** you may want to determine if condensor is connected to this wire also
if no
2) check point side (neg or - ) of coil for voltage
if yes, engine should start
if no
3) check for voltage at the + side of coil
If yes, coil is bad
if no
4) check wire connector from engine to frame wiring harness
if yes; engine should start

if no
5) check wiring on the back of ignition switch
if yes; engine should start

if no
6) check that ignition switch RED or BATTERY supply wire has voltage
if yes; switch is bad

if no
7) check supply wire and circuit breaker connected to the battery side of the solenoid
if yes; engine should start

if no; circuit breaker could be at fault or wire connector at battery supply

How do I change the fuel filter on my 3020 John Deere diesel tractor

Leaving the fuel valve on the tank in the on position will allow fuel to run through the line & keep the air purged during removal. On the other side between the pump & the filter, having the new filter topped off & speedily installed will lessen the chance of air entering the line. Once the filter is installed, open the bleed screw at the top of the filter. Just my redneck way.

2305 john deere want start replaced fuel pump still want start seems like no fire does diesle have fire

diesel work for compression ignition and have only glo plugs to help with starting in cold weather. You will need to bleed the air out of the pump and pressure lines to the injector. Crack the bleed screw on the pump until you get solid fuel then crack the injector line until it drips fuel. re tighten and it should go.

Yanmar diesel fuel injector leaking

If you removed your injector lines, and then reattached them. You first off got air in the line and you will have to purge them. But, I believe that your injector gasket was probably the culprit and why it was leaking. It sounds like the injector was losing fuel pressure and the pump was unable the push enough fuel to all the cylinders when under load.

If it were me, I would go online to HoyteTractors.com they carry every part for your Yanmar tractor that you will ever need. They also have a tech department too. Since you already have air in your lines, you might as well replace the fuel filter and O-ring and injectors seals. You can also get a service manual from Hoyte for your specific tractor model. If your Yanmar (3000) is like mine, my fuel pump is on the "passenger side" of the tractor and it has a bleed valve on it. So after you replace your parts you can bleed the air out. They are very simple machines to work on. Just in case you didnt know, most Yanmar tractors are a direct cross to John Deere Tractor Models. Any John Deere tractor under 100hp is/was Mfg. by Yanmar for 30-40 yrs or so. Good Luck!!

I ran my john deere 790 out of fuel.how do i restart

With diesel, sometimes you have to bleed air out before it will run again. Typically you disconnect the fuel line going to the injector pump, manually activate the fuel pump, or turn over until fuel comes out, then release one or more of the injectors, and turn engine over again. Normally that bleeds enough to start and then the rest of the air gets pushed through.

My john deere 990 wont start. it's not getting diesel to the engine

Check there is adequate fuel to supply engine. Check there is no damage to fuel lines and that the fuel filter is not plugged. Yours is a Yanmar diesel engine withe an autobleed feature which is supposed to bleed the air out of the system automatically. It may incorporate an electric fuel pump also, but some don't. You can prime the fuel system to the injection pump with the manual lift pump if it is equipped with it. After establishing fuel to the injection pump, loosen the nuts that hold the fuel lines onto the injectors approximately1 1/2 turns. Turn the engine over until you see fuel coming from the injector nuts. Tighten the nuts to 24 inch/lbs of torque, start the engine and run at 1/3 throttle untill it runs smooth.
