My Masterlink is 7 years old. Do I need to replace my hard drive? How many hard drives, make and models? Thank you. Bill Dorsher

Any 3.5" IDE hard drive will do, it doesn't need to be a large one, as the Alesis will only 'see' the space it needs to - google 'standard ML9600 hard drive size' to see, I can't recall offhand.

You don't HAVE to upgrade the OS if the machine is working fine. You WILL have to install it on a new HDD if you install one.

For what it's worth, I could only get the OS to install from a disc I made on a Windows XP PC. Three or four attempts from a Vista machine all failed. Win 7 and 8 are unknown territory for me.

Make certain you have an OS disc BEFORE you replace the HDD.

How to install wins 8 on dell Inspiron netbook 1018

proceed according. God bless you
  1. Create a New Partition
    • 1 Launch the Disk Management tool on your computer running Windows 7 by opening the Start menu and typing "diskmgmt.msc" in the search bar. The Disk Management tool, showing all connected storage devices, appears.
    • 2 Pick the hard drive onto which you'll install Windows 8. The normal choice is Disk0, which is the primary hard drive. This disk should already show your C: drive, and possibly other items like recovery partitions.
    • 3 Verify the available free space on the selected disk. For most computers with no other dual-boot setups installed, the entire drive should be occupied, so you'll have to shrink an existing drive (like C:). If there is a section with a black bar titled "unallocated," then this represents free space not currently in use.
    • 4 Shrink your C: drive by right-clicking on it and selecting "Shrink Volume." The computer assesses and reports how much free space is available on the disk. You need a minimum of 16GB of free space to install 32-bit Windows 8 and 20GB of space for 64-bit Windows 8. Type either 160000 or 200000 in the "Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB" box. Increase that number if you want additional storage space for files and programs within Windows 8. Click "Shrink" to continue.
    • 5 Right-click on the new unallocated space and select "New Simple Volume." Leave the defaults, ensuring that NTFS is selected as the file system type. Give the drive a name, like "Windows 8."
    • 6 Insert your Windows 8 installation disc or USB drive into your computer. When the new drive is formatted, restart the computer and boot from your installation disc or drive.
    Install Windows 8
    • 7 Select "Custom" during the Windows 8 Setup initialization process.
    • 8 Select the new drive you created when the installation program asks you where you want to install Windows 8. Be sure to select the drive with the label you used for the new drive; if you install to the C: drive, you will overwrite your existing Windows 7 installation.
    • 9 Follow onscreen instructions to install Windows 8.
    • 10 Reboot after you install Windows 8, ensuring that you've removed any installation media. When the computer restarts, you are presented with a boot screen that lets you pick between Windows 7 and Windows 8.

I want to change hard disc, need instruction how to replace the old disc and install new one

There should be a removeable panel on the bottom side of the laptop that covers the hard drive. there might be several, so you may have to remove several panels before you find the hard drive.

To remove the hard drive, slide it away from the connector side to unhook it, then lift it up and out of the compartment. Examine the connector side of the hard drive, because there is probably an adapter affixed to the connector/contact. remove the adapter (if applicable) and put it on the new hard drive, then drop it down into the compartent and slide the new hard drive in towards the connection to connect it.

Now, you will need the windows disk that came with the computer to reinstall windows. if you do not have a disk, you can order one from sony.

if, instead of starting with a fresh windows install, you wish to copy windows with all of your data to the new hard drive, you will have to hook up both the old and new hard drive up inside a desktop and use cloning software such as Archaos makes to copy the old disk's data onto the new one, windows and all. These hard drives may be smaller than standared hard drives, but once the adapter is removed, they have the exact same SATA connectiuons as do standard desktop[ hard drives and will hook up to a SATA capable desktop (any made within the last 5 years) just fine.

Reboot error - did not come with disk

You could have a hard drive failure. In that case you need to get a new on and re-install the operating system. Depending on the operating system which i guess is windows XP you should have no problem re-installing it with a valid license. To optain the software you need to find it on the internet and download it. then use your license to validate it. Hope this helps

What holds on the pads

There should be a black plastic disc that fits tight over that white one. The black disc has lots of little spikes to engage with the pads.

Installed new hard drive into Toshiba M35X-S163 due to old HD completely breaking, installed new 320gb HD, but the recovery disk from Toshiba doesn't want to work, keeps 'cycling' the recovery process,...

You will need to talk to whoever you got the HD from. It should have come with a format disk since HD have barely changed over the last ten years they can still be setup for just about anything form FAT16 to the latest Mac use.
The reason you are having troubles is that the HD doesn't know what format you are giving it. Whenever i have bought a new HD it comes with a disc to format then you are good to use the OS disc to load up it is possible that the recovery disc is setup only for a Toshiba setup HD and not another generic format. you might what to call the toshiba help line (800) 457-7777 that is straight from their website. Best of luck my friend

Be sure you have no cd's, dvd's, thumb drives or floppys in the drives.Turn off all peripherals. If the problem persists then "disk error" says it all. A new hard drive may be in order. Especially if the machine is a couple years old.

Xbox wont read disk

Hello, This problem ( I know from personal experience), is a disc drive error... this is definately a fix-it yourself project! First of all, you must open your xbox 360... The video i learned this from was at youtube , this is the video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj2A7mGGjuY
Okay... once you are inside... (on the video he will point out the disc drive)... write down the model # of the Disc drive.... this is very important. for this drive will be the only drive that will work if you do it yourself. They usually sell for about 50 bucks on ebay,,, maybe even less , and that includes shipping and handling. When you get your disc drive... you will need to open the old disc drive up, and take out the memory chip,,, (each xbox 360 has their own unique memory, that is why you NEED this chip).... You then open up the new disc drive and take the memory chip out of there, then insert the memory chip from your old disc drive. You then put everything back together, and i guarantee this will work... The video to learn where your disc drive is, and how to do the disc drive fix, is also on youtube at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_xSsNmjqKI&feature=channel ........ Electronics are not cheap at all! especially game systems... you pay for the system... you want what you pay for... This fix will void your warranty... but if you have a warranty, then you probably would just send it back to microsoft. If you have anymore questions, do not hesitate to ask... I'm always glad to help :D Please rate this answer.... Good luck! and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!! :D
