The most common cause is an unsafe load/speaker impedance. If you have the speakers wired correctly, you may have a short in the wiring. If the wiring is OK, the amp is likely defective
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Not enough juice, check the power and ground connections, another possibility is to have dc in the input, try to use in line filter available from radio shack to cut the dc, also test the with one speaker at the time, you could have a bad speaker (shorted) too.

VU meters are generally illuminated by small bulbs at the back of them. It's unlikely to be a powerfull bulb perhaps 12 volts perhaps around 200ma at the most. Most electrical shops should sell something that should suffice. It could be an LED though!

SOURCE: Pyle PLMRA 400watt marine amp.
I'm assuming you mean channels 2 and 4? If you tried new cables and you know they work then you might wanna check to see if there is a 2,3,or 4 channel switch on the amp or just a switch that reads bridged. If a switch on an amp is set to bridged or 2 channels, whatever type of switch there is, then it would make the amp only run 2 channels. If there is'nt a switch and you have a signal on the cable your using then you may have some shorted transistors. Make sure you definately have a signal first before thinking some transistors are shorted. Take the rca's from the 2 channels that work and put them into the inputs cause you know those channels are working. Let me know what you find, I would like to help you more if you still have problems after this. I also do amplifire repair cheap. I have my own business and most of my customers are from this site, so if you need it repaired then I can help you out on this as well. Just send me a private message. Good luck

Both voice coils need to be connected to the amp.
If you wire the coils parallel (both +'s and both -'s together and then to the amp), the final load will be 2 ohms. If you wire the coils in series (one + to the other - and the remaining + and - to the amp), the load will be 8 ohms. If your amp is 2 ohm stable, use the parallel wiring. If it is only stable at 4 ohms or greater, use the series wiring.
Hope this helps.
