Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC21 Motorhead doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, you may need to wash the lifetime pre-filter. In normal use this should be washed at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing them in your machine.

You may also want to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure the Motorhead floor tool, wand and hose are free of any obstructions: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc21/dc21-motorhead/my-machine-is-not-working/does-the-brushbar-turn-with-the-power-on-dc20

If you'd like some further guidance from our experts after giving this a try, we're happy to help. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My vacuum was clogged in the hose, and now I can't turn it back on

Hi there,
I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC21. Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. However, after 1-2 hours the machine has cooled and can be turned on again.
If your machine cannot be turned on and over two hours have passed since it initially shut down, please call us so we can provide further assistance. We can be reached at 1-866-693-9766 in the US or 0800 298 0298 in the UK.
Best wishes,
Jessica

Dyson 21 Information

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC21. If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide. This will help you clear the blockage in the hose, and identify any other issues with the machine:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=998&product=DC21-MOTORHEAD_US

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve things, but if you need any further assistance, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can help.

Best wishes,
