Polaris Indy 500 carb float setttings

After cleaning carbs snowmobile still bogs when I shut the gas off and run it until it just about dies and then turn the gas on and the sled revs out good for a few minutes and then it bogs out again like it is to rich in fuel.seems like the float is not shutttin the fuel off .Yet when sed bowl is taken offf and the needle and seat are checked they shut the fuel off when you push the tab up to shut thefuel off manually it works fine. What should the float setting be?

SOURCE: 97 polaris 500 sportsman 4x4 atv carburetor

If you have gone through the carburetor and your atv still won't rev it sounds like the exhaust lobe on the camshaft is going flat. They have an overhead camshaft in the 500 motor and the exhaust lobes seem to wear down if the oil is broken down (gas in oil) or if the wrong oil is used. Easy way to tell is to remove the 8 screws on valve cover and the spark plug. Then remove the 4 screws holding down the rocker arms. Once the rocker arms are removed you can see the camshaft, pull on the recoil rope to rotate engine until the lobes are facing upward. The two outer lobes are the intake lobes, and the center is the exhaust lobe. If the exhaust is worn, you will definitely be able to tell because it should be about the same height as the intake. Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that I would recommend a reputable repair shop. Hope this helps, and if you need more help let me know, Daniel.

I have a 1989 polaris indy 500 was riding on the lake and after 24 miles it just quit. I have spark its getting gas and have comp. Please help!

I don't know where you live -- but up here in Alaska ( where it is very cold ) we have problems with water getting into the fuel of just about everything ( condensation from sitting )and the snowmobiles I have here I have to drain the carbs every now and then to drain out the little bit of water that finds its way to the carb bowl. ( just a thought ).
could also be a blocked/dirty jet in the carb, to cover all bases I would remove the bowl from the carburetor and spray down all parts with carb cleaner and then re-install and then try and run the sled. ( 9 times out of 10 the problems are carburetor related ).

I have a 1995 Polaris Indy 500. The engine floods out immediately. Once so bad yet a friend was going to borrow my machine it was running out of the exhaust pipe. If the plugs are dry, you get one pop...

this is caused by a stuck float in the carburetor. remove the carb from the machine, remove the float bowl from the carb, using carb cleaner - spray the components down and clean out any debris, make sure all parts move smooth and seals are clean, clear and not cracked,, re-assemble the unit and install back onto the sled. this will stop the constant flow of fuel.
have fun out in the snow --- ride on !!!

I have a 97 polaris indy 500 snowmobile. The spark

Wait, it just wont turn over, like the engine won't rotate?, that is either a broken crank, which not unusual for those 500's or you seized it, (welded the piston to the jugs). if this isn't what you mean, and it will turn over but not on its own power, then either your jets in the carbs are clogged, fuel may get to it, but not through it, or your rings are stuck closed and giving you low compression, check this by pulling it over slowly, you should feel each piston completing the revolution with a prominent glug glug. grab your primary clutch and rotate it back and forth, it should have a bit of play, but if it clanks and has alot of play, your crank is busted

I have a 97 sportsman 500 . it starts right up and runs until you give it all the throttel then it bogs down like its not getting enough gas.

Bad gas..clogged jets in carb...very dirty air filter....clogged gas line or gas tank....stuck float in carb.
