I just moved to this apartment and I´m trying to lite the oven (which belongs to the apartment owner).
I turn the dial to 350 and nothing happens. I used the stove and it works fine, I have fire in all the four of them.
Thanks a lot for your attention,
This happened with my self cleaning gas range. The burners worked fine. I checked for a leak. Turns out the igniter needed to be replaced. The landlady had a warranty from Circuit City so the repairman replaced the part. Sounds like you may me in the same boat. I sure was happy to have my oven back! : )
Might be a electric start oven check to see if it needs to be plugged. in . If the ignition sparker or the relay is fried( shorted) out there not to difficult to replace.. But seeing that you rent I would get the manger of the apartment to do it.

If your GE Oven will not lock during the self clean cycle count yourself lucky. If it will go through the cycle then let it self clean and just make sure no one opens the door while it is hot. Most ovens fail locked and there are several possible faults - one of the two switches may have failed, the oven temperature sensor may have failed, the motor that drives the lock may have failed (most likely your issue), the plastic gear may have stripped. There is not a manual lock or unlock over ride and to unlock the oven manually you have to take the stove apart which is difficult when it is locked.
do you hear any clicking when you try to start the oven portion of the range? if not lets try this, open the lower drawer so you can see the burner bar and mechanism for lighting the bake bar. as your watching the mechanism turn on the oven (nothing should happen as per your issue) while oven is on try lighting one of the top burners, any one will do wanna check if that lites the spark and in turn lites the oven pilot.if that does infact work you have a bad spark switch for the oven control
look closely at ht e 2 dials push to stop cook manually.that s where theproblem lies. you need to set it for MANUAL cooking probably requires turning one knob till it pops out.its probalby set for timed cooking. Its usally labeled around the clock face in real small print "push in for manual operation"
