Question about Televison & Video

I need to be able to use the entire channel selector.

I need to attach a digital box to this television. The box needs the tuner to be set at a particular channel. The channel selector switch on the tv bypasses that channel. How do I unprogram the channel selector so that I may tune it to the needed channel?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A couple of possibilities:

  • on the remote press the channel number;
  • in the MENU/SETTINGS, add that channel to the memory;
  • in some models/version of the digital receiver box, there is a selector switch at the back between 2 channels for the RF output.
Additionally, post back the brand and model number that we can figure out more detailed steps should it be necessary.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

How do I get free local TV over-the-air stations?

The Quasar VV-2002 only has an NTSC (analog tuner). Very few stations with NTSC transmitters are still broadcasting. Only low-power stations were allowed to continue broadcasting an analog signal. Unless you are very close to one of the transmitters, your TV will not tune in the station.

You'll need to connect the TV to a digital-to-analog over the air converter box. (The low-end ones that were free or cheap with the government coupon are harder to find; a few models are still available.) These convert the ATSC (digital) signal to NTSC. Then use an appropriate antenna and follow the instructions to tune in the available OTA signals. Send these to the TV either on the RF or composite Line-in. Set the TV to the appropriate input and use the converter box to change channels.

I hope this helps.

(20" TVs weren't required to have an ATSC tuner until 2007. Since there are reviews for the VV-2002 from 2004, it obviously is an older set.)

Can I get l get local channels if my cable is off.

If your TV has a digital tuner built in then yes. If it's an older TV then you'll need an external digital tuner box and an outside antenna.

Have had digital installed and cannot get tv to work through digital. Any advice?

Hello
Thei Orion model Tv is not equipped with a digital tuner inside. There is only an analogue tuner fitted and only analogue channels can be received by this set. To get digital channels, you have to buy one settop box, which can convert digital signals to analogue signals. In short, a Digital to Analogue Converter should be bought, if you want to get digital channels. OK.

I cant get any channels with my coby tv

This COBY only has an analog tuner. Thus unless you are close to one of the remaining low-power stations, you need a digital-to-analog converter for OTA TV signals. For digital TV, you should use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to identify the antenna and direction for the digital signals that you may be able to receive. Antennaweb assumes an outdoor antenna is conservative in the channel list it provides. Digital signal is either enough to register with the tuner or No Signal. An amplifier may be needed is the signal is split to several TVs.

If you have cable, check the type of signal coming in to the TV. If the signal has been switched to digital, you need a set top box.

I hope this helps.

Cannot get tuner to work - dvd works fine

Analog TV broadcasting is done now. Unless your TV has a digital tuner already built in, you'll need a converter box to get any channels now. The DVD player part will still work, as you've already discovered. If your TV does have a digital tuner, try going through the setup and scan for channels.

Polaroid Model TLX01911C

Greetings!

This set is listed as having the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) tuner. This tuner provides reception of digital over-the-air (antenna/rabbit ears) signals and would therefore not need a converter box fir that use.

If you are trying to receive un-encrypted digital signals from cable, the ATSC tuner does no good. The set would then require a QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) tuner. I am not sure if this set has a QAM tuner or not. Even if it did not, your cable provider must provide a way for you to receive their signal and should make their converter box available to you.

Hope this helps explain things a little,
Rob

Configuring I/O cable box, VCR, DVD.

Unfortunately you would need a second digital cable tuner to do what you are trying to do.
The digital tuner only outputs one channel at a time, selected by that box, so you can only record or watch that one channel at a time.

Many people are switching to dual tuner DVR's to cure this dilemma.
